"Major Announcement" in Myrtle Beach tomorrow

Not trying to be a negative newt, but how much pull does this guy have? he only had like 1700 twitter followers before hinting hard the other day about endorsing and has then gained about 500 new RP followers.

Guess he can get his family on board at least

I never heard of the guy until now. His appeal will be local only.

Well, I wouldn't want to compare Tom Davis to God or anything. I mean, he's great, but he's no Tom Davis.

Regardless how influential the guy is, this is going to be a major news item the day before a debate. This news might make voters more inclined to listen and accept Ron Paul's message and can translate into big numbers. We'll have to see how it plays out, but this could be big.

Before he ran successfully in Congress, state Senator Tom McClintock was kind of the equivilant in California. He had a lot of sway for conservatives in the state of California. (McClintock never endorsed Ron Paul to my knowledge, even though Ron Paul endorsed McClintock.) Perhaps Davis is the same way. Don't live in SC, so wouldn't know.

Read in an article a while back in the Fall of 2011 that a Tom Davis endorsement is more coveted than a Jim DeMint endorsement. And get real, people - Pain or DeMint are NOT going to endorse Ron.

South Carolina is not that well connected in the internet world, so to say that Tom Davis is lacking a wiki page or a lot of twitter followers isn't saying much. The local appeal in SC is by the word of mouth and local media. And a lot of sources say Tom Davis is extremely well respected. Wasn't he Mark Sanford's chief of staff when Sanford was governor of SC, back before the scandal?

This is what I've read about him:

“Senator Tom Davis’ fiscal conservative credentials are outstanding,” said Matt Moore, executive director of the SCGOP. “Any candidate would do well to gain his endorsement.”
Not surprisingly, Davis’ nod has been among the most sought-after of the primary season. Last year, The Politico named him one of its “50 politicos to watch,” while a recent CNN storyreferenced him as a “rising star.”
His influence obviously hasn’t been lost on the candidates, either.
“To get an endorsement from someone like Tom Davis is a big deal,” former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum told The Hilton Head Island Packet recently. “It would speak volumes to folks and make them take notice and give us a look.”
'

So it sounds like he may have influence in SC.

Wait! You mean this isn't Tom Davis the basketball coach? :D

Yes, and he's a big name in SC politics. All the candidates asked for his endorsement. He's the heir apparent to DeMint's seat.

^^^ Sen. Tom Davis featured on Pub Politics. Wesley Donehue and Phil Bailey strike up conversation on how Senator Davis's endorsement is more covetted than Nikki Haley's.

We've all been thinking about Davis's influence on Ron Paul. And I hope too that he will help Ron's campaign. But what about Ron Paul's influence on Davis? If Davis runs for US senate after this, you've got to believe he'll be more Paulian than he would have otherwise been. And it looks like from the Texas Senatorial debate that we'll have a senator from texas that agrees with ron paul on monetary policy. That is influence.

From what I've heard, Davis' endorsement has been highly sought after (candidates have been courting him for his endorsement). Wish I could remember where I read that.

And if he's as influential as it sounds, hopefully he'll get out there and stump for Paul like Nikki Haley and John McCain are doing for Romney, for example.

I just got this email, and I'm assuming it's the Davis endorsement. I happen to live in Myrtle Beach, so I'll go check it out and report back! I'll try to get some pics. Freaking excited, never seen Dr. Paul live before!!

Congrats on the opportunity to finally see him in person, on such a special day!
