MSNBC host Rachel Maddow on Tuesday noted that no Republican president candidate had tried to compete with Ron Paul’s loyal base, even though they were voters just like any others.

“It’s like he doesn’t have corporeal form,” she said. “There is never a discussion of whether or not any other Republican candidate will ever try to compete for his voters. Ron Paul voters are human beings. Why does nobody compete for them?”

Paul has gained an enthusiastic and dedicated following for his strong views on limited government, state’s rights and free market economics. Many of his economic positions and rhetoric have been adopted by mainstream Republicans, but his views on issues like drug legalization and foreign policy set him far apart from his rivals.

“You’d have to depart from Republican orthodoxy to go at them in any way,” Lawrence O’Donnell responded. “You have to become more of a peacenik than Gene McCarthy ever was. And you see what Santorum does with that. Ron Paul pushes Santorum to the point of saying, ‘I will bomb, I personally will bomb Iran, I’ll do it.’”

Henri Ducard: But if you make yourself more than just a man, if you devote yourself to an ideal, and if they can't stop you, then you become something else entirely.
Bruce Wayne: Which is?
Henri Ducard: A legend, Mr. Wayne.

This is the discussion that Faux News does not want to dedicate time towards because it encourages their viewers to think. This is the discussion that should be a top story. This is another example of their dishonesty by omission.

good find...

Yeah, they're nice now that we came in third after all the trash they threw at him and the Faux Santorum surge created by the media at the last minute to derail Paul.

The Left and Right machines basically took Ron's head off before Iowa, and now they're acting all nice ? You ppl buy that shit ? I expect more from RP supporters. We are way smarter then that, we are not gullible sheep like most Americans.

The Republicans didn't adopt any real conservative ideas in 2008, and thus, (R)'s like me voted third party.

If Ron doesn't win the nomination, then I don't expect any outreach to Ron Paul supporters this time, which makes me expect an Obama victory.

Sorry GOP, there are too many of us now to be ignored, or bamboozled.

People are started to realize we have the kind of support that boosts ratings and makes money. Some will come out of their political closet and we should encourage them to do so. Some will try to take advantage. Good thing we have a lot of smart people looking out.

It was before the vote came in.

Matthews' analysis was spot on.
