The Louisiana GOP Caucus is today (January 22nd) from 5 to 8 p.m. Central Time and Dr. Paul has a good shot at not only winning 1st place but taking ALL 44 of the National Delegates.

Why, you ask?

Since Louisiana has both a primary and a caucus, the caucus has very poor attendance, and so every vote counts. The caucus is not well publicized and many in the state don't even know they have a Caucus. Furthermore, the delegates elected at these caucuses are the only thing that matters -- the primary in February is completely non-binding in Louisiana.

If Paul supporters are able to get the word out now, he could do very well.

..be excited, but don't put yr hopes so high they'll be shattered hehe

So it's kind of like the situation in Nevada with elected delegates and a non-binding straw poll, except the straw poll is later? Speaking of which, when are we going to get that delegate count from NV that I keep hearing about?

" Fox News reports that the libertarian-minded Paul was the only candidate to visit Louisiana on the eve of the state’s Republican caucuses Tuesday. The caucuses are an intermediary step in picking a favorite candidate. A presidential primary will take place on Feb. 9 and a state convention will convene on Feb. 16."

I voted at caucus in Baton Rouge and Ron Paul signs and supporters were everywhere. Almost the whole meet up group was there. No Huckabee signs/supporters what so ever but a significant amount of McCain and Romney people.

Judging by the environment, I think RP might do well, at least in BR. :)

kenner

There was great support in Kenner, especially early on. I saw lots of unknown faces carrying pre-printed ballots in and leaving with Ron Paul yard signs. There were a slow but steady trickle of generally older folks who seemed disinterested in Paul. We had our own trickle, though. One group was claiming "pro-family/pro-life", which I believe are Huckabee people. Romney had a table, and the local politicians had a McCain slate (reward seniority, right?).

I am not sure who won, but if the other people's slates were equally split, I would think we would win. It may come down to provisional ballots, of people who weren't on the rolls, bc they were stopped at November 1st (even though the deadline was November 30th...although we aren't 100% that's firm). I would guess it's between us and the local quasi-establishment.
