Looks like there will be a special primary for MI-11

Looks like a free for all, 4 names on the republican ballot, to literally fill just 7 weeks of the remaining term.

For anyone looking here and wondering what is going on:

1) August 7th Primary to fill the seat for the next two years (Bentivolio is the only one on the republican ballot in this republican district) This is what we need to win.

2) September 5th SPECIAL Primary (what this thread is referring to) is to fill the remaining 7 weeks of the seat current term in the district (old district lines, before it was redrawn.

3) November 6th - Is the General Election for both of these primaries. Important note: This district was re-drawn, so there is the current district and the new district. It is a very republican district.

Hopefully this helps anyone new looking into this thread and race.

Bottom line: If Bentivolio wins the August 7th primary, he will win this seat for the next 2 years and beyond.

That's my take on it as well. Win August 7th and this might be over before it starts.

Nancy Cassis, 2 other Republicans file to join special primary with Kerry Bentivolio

Nancy Cassis, 2 other Republicans file to join special primary in 11th Congressional District

LANSING, MI - Former state Sen. Nancy Cassis and two other Republicans filed before Friday's deadline to run in a special primary in the suburban Detroit congressional district left vacant by U.S. Rep. Thaddeus McCotter's resignation.

Kerry Bentivolio, a tea party backer from Milford, filed earlier this week.

If three GOP candidates do not withdraw by Monday or are disqualified for a lack of valid petitions, there will be a primary on Sept. 5 at an estimated cost of $650,000.

“I deeply regret the cost, confusion and extra burden on the local clerks which will occur due to the special election the governor has called,” Cassis, who submitted 2,000 signatures, said in a statement. “But we cannot allow this seat to be represented by a Democrat who supports ObamaCare, or a Republican (Bentivolio) who believes President Bush and Vice-President Cheney were responsible for the 9/11 terrorist attack on America.”

Bentivolio's campaign manager, Bob Dindoffer, shot back: "Shame on Nancy Cassis for questioning the patriotism of a proud veteran. We cannot allow Cassis to represent the people of this district. If she partnered with Jennifer Granholm to raise taxes on Michigan businesses, then just imagine what she will do with Nancy Pelosi."

Is Kenneth Crider a dead person? Seems that way from Google.

Oh god, Cassis just leveled B as a truther. That's how far out this broad is, note that I've dropped referring to her as a lady. Anyway, seems like the GOP is ok w/ splitting the vote 4 ways potentially allowing for the dem to win the special. That said, I'm confident in the level of support Kerry has and the energetic base that will show up for him on the 5th. Of course, the Aug 7 primary is D-day. Balls to the wall til then.

Has Liberty For All Super PAC helped the campaign with any mailers or advertisements?

It won't split the vote with the Democrat. There is a general election in November for both the regular election and the special election.

I see that now. This will make things extra confusing cause those that got pushed into other districts will apparently be voting in 2 races for Congress. This special should decide who fills the remainder of Thad's term.

I didn't even understand the above general situation until now and I'm in the old district for god's sake.
