Hey everyone. I am proud to be able to make my very first post on these forums tonight. I am 26 and I have never paid much attention to politics, nor have I ever voted before.

Witnessing the decaying state of our country and listening to the message of Dr. Paul has inspired me to not only have hope, but to take the time to learn about what is going on today, and what role or duties I can do to help.

I want to vote for Ron Paul tomorrow as a write in, but I don't know if he is a certified write in in the state of Illinois. I don't want to use my first voting experience as a wasted one if he will not be credited with my vote.

Can anyone tell me how I can find out if he is a certified write in candidate for the state of Illinois? Thanks guys.

Illinois

To qualify as a write-in candidate in the entire state of Illinois, the candidate has to submit a "Declaration of Intent to be a Write-in Candidate" form to every jurisdiction (i.e. County) in the state and with each of the 8 Board of Elections Commissioners. There are 102 Counties in Illinois, so the candidate needs to file 110 forms total. Each one has to be signed and notarized individually. The Declaration of Intent form is available from the Illinois State Board of Elections. Call (312) 814-6440.

The candidate can also submit the Declaration of Intent forms only to those counties in which he/she wants to run. Here are the 10 most populous counties in Illinois, plus Chicago’s own board of elections:

Ron Paul is on the ballot in Montana and Louisiana, and is a write-in in California. That's all. So no, a write in vote in Illinois will not be counted. Use that vote for any other third party candidate of your choice. I and Dr. Paul recommend Chuck Baldwin. To see if Baldwin is on the ballot or if he's a write in, check out ballotaccess.org. They have a big chart that shows who is on which state ballots.

Thank you guys. I am now a bit bummed that I can't vote for Ron. But, I suppose I can take comfort in voting for someone with similar ideas and a similar message.
