Live Blog for Minnesota Caucuses

Why we doing so much better in Minnesota compared to Missouri?

No one but Santorum campaigned in Missouri, it is PURELY a straw poll there, they don't even start the delegate selection process after the straw vote as they did in Iowa, and are doing in CO and MN. The caucuses in Missouri for that are in March and it is a completely different GOTV. Santorum threw money and time at Missouri before Gingrich did worse and started shedding votes. Ron went to Maine, but that has real delegate selection effect if you stay after the straw poll and participate. Missouri has nothing. Gingrich isn't even on the ballot but WILL be at the caucus.

But also, the south is more socially conservative in the 'control others' way than the north is.

Oakdale Patch: Minnesota House District 55B straw poll results: 115 for Ron Paul, 11 for Rick Santorum, 42 for Mitt Romney, 22 for Newt Gingrich

More like it :)

Why we doing so much better in Minnesota compared to Missouri?

MO is a beauty contest tonight. No delegates - they caucus in March I believe. The only one that spent any money on it was Santorum. It may turn out though to be a wise decision on his part if it buys him momentum

Hopkins Patch: Hopkins results: Gingrich - 22 Paul - 53 Romney - 24 Santorum - 55

Look on the bright side, with Santorum doing this well he'll invite a lot of attention to himself. He's about to get vetted in ways he hasn't been so far. To paraphrase Carville "The Rick Santorum you know today will not be the Santorum you know in 10 days".

Minnesota Patch: It's a big night for Rick Santorum, who now leads in Colorado, as well. He has half the ballots counted, though the counting is just getting under way in that state.

Americans are getting dumber by the second.

MapleGrovePatch: State Sen. Warren Limmer (R-Maple Grove) reflects on turnout at the Maple Grove caucus:

"Quite a momentous night. The community really comes out on presidential years. Who'd have ever thought that Ron Paul would be here?"

He thought Paul would show strong because of his appearance. "When a candidate shows up, people will turn out," he said. "The people really seemed united."

Limmer said this is one of the best turnouts he's ever seen for a caucus.

"The first time I caucused here it was at the fire station across the street. We met in the upstairs of the fire station. All of us." He laughed and looked around the room. "This was just a corn field."

I just got back from my caucus. One of the university of minnesota precincts. I was elected as a delegate! All others from my precinct were RP supporters too.

and Older... Ron will get his standard 4-5% on the 50-64 elders and the 3% for the 65+ crowd. Lake Jackson, you have a huge problem with the largest percentile voting groups.
