list of empires that collapsed in Afghanistan?

i'm thinking of writing an LTE stating something to the effect of "finally Rs and Ds agree on something..." That something being that Afghanistan is a clusterfuck and should be abandoned.

i think i've heard that empires die there, but the only one that comes to mind is the USSR. are there others?

I think it`s not so much that empires collapse in Afgnistan but that empires try to take over Afganistan, but they can`t and are kicked out after much bloodleting.

The British tried and failed three times to conquer Afghanistan, Genghis wasn't successful at conquering it either.
