I had a 3 hour conversation with Kuchar yesterday. I basically grilled him.
He is so solid on the Constitution it amazed me. He was citing sections off the top of his head, also citing the Austrian economists, the federalist papers and anti-federalist papers. He described himself as a "constitutional conservative libertarian"
One of the most striking things he said to me was “If a vote comes up where it is the opinion of my constituents v. the Constitution, the district loses, the Constitution wins. EVERY TIME.”
My first Q:"what members of congress do you hope to align yourself with?"
A: Gohmert, Stockman,(He's from TX) Amash, Massie, Huelskamp, Steve King.
He hopes to be part of a group who are willing to attack an issue from all sides- he is a preacher and accountant and wants to work with liberty minded people to go at it from every angle.
Q: How do you feel about the Tax Code?
A: Audit and Abolish the IRS. Go back to a gold standard or individually run banks (alternative currency). But the number one thing the US has to do is stop printing money. He really hates fiat currency.
Q: How do you feel about social issues (marijuana, industrial hemp, gay marriage)?
A: They are all state issues, the federal government shouldn't be involved.
Marijuana: The state should have complete control over whether they want to allow people to smoke/use marijuana. The only level of federal involvement should be in relation to the commerce clause (To regulate Commerce...among the several states) regarding transportation across state lines. The example he gave is if Texas and Kansas legalize marijuana, the state of Oklahoma does not need to allow transportation of the product through its state.
Industrial Hemp: He cited the fact that we are one of the only industrialized nations that does not allow the cultivation of industrial hemp and said he would support any legislation to prevent the DEA from prohibiting cultivation of industrial hemp in states that have legalized it.
Gay Marriage: He said it is a state issue, if Texas wants to ban it people can move out of Texas (Vote with your feet). Marriage is a private social contract that needs no government involvement. He tied it back into getting rid of the IRS because the only reason that the federal government is involved in marriage is in relation to the income tax. No more income tax, no more marriage credits.
He said he wanted to be in the House for no more than 3 terms, because he is a citizen candidate (He’s working full time as an accountant and running his campaign), and if elected would be a citizen legislator.
We got into a discussion about my favorite members of congress (Amash, Massie; a few others like Huelskamp, Mulvaney, Labrador) and his final sentiment about why he wants to get elected was “I want to go help those guys we just mentioned, they are the ones saving the country”
