Libertarian National Convention

Yes. Cite where she called for more taxes and/or fees.

I don't have a recorded copy of the debate on me but if you watch it again you'll see her response and you'll also see her lack of understanding for the issues.

It's not that I don't like her, but she's not presidential material. Let her do some work in the congress or senate.

2nd Round

Barr 188
Ruwart 162
Root 138
Gravel 73
Phillies 36
Kubby 32

Barr will take this nomination, and unless he wants Gravel as his Veep, I guarantee it'll be Barr/Root '08. It's a ticket I can get behind, especially after Root's performance last night. McCain's campaign has to be worried if they put a Pure-Conservative ticket on the LP.

A lot of the people who don't like Barr don't like Root either and vice-versa. VPs don't get critiqued much in the media, especially not for third parties (do you know Ralph Nader's VP candidates?), so it'd be better to have Ruwart as VP. Everyone wants Kubby as their VP as well, although that could backfire for Barr, since Kubby is rather well-known for his marijuana initiatives, which might hurt Barr's support among social conservatives.

Kludge is right. Ruwart is as libertarian as they come. You need to read her book if you think otherwise.

On the second ballot - Barr 30%, Ruwart 26%, Root 22%.

If the forces are really anti-Barr, they better vote for Root in the second to last round of voting. Because a Barr-Ruwart vote will result in a Barr victory.

No no no, she panders to the Ron Paul message without fully understanding it and that's my problem. I don't totally buy it. Watch the debate last night..she's very unsure, proposed taxes, changed it to fees, and used the old "troops defending oil" argument. You need to understand the economic impact of the war, the devaluation of the dollar etc. It's all intertwined. Fees and taxes are counterproductive....Again, you may think that was a slip on her part, but it shows me there is something not to sure of her message inside.

I would think the Gravel delegates will end up voting for Barr.
They can't be pure Libertarians.

Ruwart on the war : Let's bring our young men and women home as soon as they can be safely evacuated from Iraq, from Europe, from Japan. Our brave soldiers have volunteered to lay down their lives for us, asking only that we don't put them in harm's way unless absolutely necessary. It's time to support our troops by bringing them back alive.

Ruwart on Taxation
: Not only is taxation “evil,” it’s unnecessary as well. When government provides a service, it costs us twice as much as a private firm would charge us (for examples, see my book, “Healing Our World,” available as a bound book (2003 edition) or a free download (1992 edition) at www.ruwart.com). If we all spent our money the way we chose to, instead of trying to tax each other, we’d have twice as much to spend. Imagine how much better off we’d be! Civilization would flourish, instead of being suppressed. Harmony would be restored.

What does WAR say about online gambling that would make him preferable to online gamblers? Just curious, as this is a very important issue for myself (Currently playing 7 tournaments as I type this)

WAR is a sports-handicapper as his profession. So he's for 100% legalization of gambling.

Matt Gonzalez is Nader's VP. Trust me Barr/Root '08 would be all over FOX News, and they'd get heavy handed support. Murdoch was an ex-chairman on the Cato Institute. Steve Kubby is on right now, he'll endorse Mary Ruwart.

Good call =)

Watching the people supporting Mary Ruwart (one is wearing a V for Vendetta mask) and some of the others around has me laughing. I do like the LP a lot because it shows you can have all these different ideas of one political philosophy but still support each other for the most part. Joe Johnson (Not the Atlanta Hawks' Superstar but some white dude).

Barr has been personally very gracious and welcoming with Gravel.

If we see a Barr/Gravel or Gravel/Barr ticket, I'll do back-flips and put it on YouTube.

I think Mike Gravel is a key endorsement. If he endorses Mary Ruwart, she could win the nomination.

Then she shouldn't have mentioned taxes and fees as a way to get things done last night! It's contradictory! What does she REALLY believe?! Go watch the debate video! I don't appreciate people that can claim to be so solid in their beliefs, and then be so unsure as to suggest the opposite when speaking.

I would never vote for a Barr/Gravel ticket and if Barr ran with him I wouldn't support him. Gravel is a SOCIALIST.

Gravel

I can't STAND Gravel.....

If he's on the ticket...yay I'm bolting the Republican party and the Libertarian Party....and forming my own personal party called the I-Hate-All-Politicians party.

No no no...you need to do a little more research. You can kick and scream and ignore the facts, but Barr has been clear on his positions. We stay in our own affairs and let people do what they want when they want in the privacy of their own homes. You can try and twist that around, but to me it's clear. He's sincere. Government needs to stay out of our life and he's said it many times.

I'm ignoring the facts?? How is "additional resources to Columbia to fight the drug war" - a position Barr CURRENTLY holds - opposing the drug war? Sorry your guy holds a bunch of anti-libertarian positions, you might as well admit it.
