Does anyone know about books that view Presidents from a libertarian perspective? I'm also looking for the most unbiased books in general.

RE: Abraham Lincoln - "The Real Lincoln" and "Lincoln Unmasked" by Thomas DiLorenzo.

Great suggestions! I'm actually familiar with these books, but I was wondering if there any biographies that have a neutral stance on their subject. For example, I know that Arthur Schlesinger and Doris Kearns Goodwin are seen as "court historians" who glorify statist Presidents (Lincoln, LBJ, FDR, etc). I want some suggestions for books that show the President, warts and all.

The Politically Incorrect Guides may be a good place to start

I didn't read the entire thing, but IIRC the guy who wrote the PIG to US Presidents from Wilson to Obama (There might be one about all of them, but I'm not sure) was kind of a bit of a conservative/neo-conservative hybrid, although he did mention Ron Paul in a positive light for talking about the constitution, he seemed to only really care about fiscal issues, and although Coolidge was his highest ranked from the period, he ranked Reagan very highly and even ranked Bush Jr. quite highly, while failing Clinton (While Clinton wasn't very good, I think any libertarian would agree that he was less bad than Bush.) He gave every Republican a "C" grade or better, yet failed five Democrats.

"Recarving Rushmore" is way better, although I've only read up to Grant so far. In addition to ranking all of the Presidents, he also has much more of a libertarian respective. I was surprised that Carter clocked in at #8 (That's one section that I'm interested in reading) that Jefferson was ranked so low (Elend taught me some things about Jefferson that I didn't know in the past but overall I don't think he was all that bad, although he was a bit of a hypocirte) and although it doesn't surprise me, I thought he was a bit soft on Lincoln (The only Presidents I think were actually worse than Lincoln were Wilson and FDR, not sure about Bush and Obama, Elend ranks Lincoln 29th of 40.)

I read that one just last month, and the author works for AEI, which is a neocon think tank.
I'm lining up three books on Coolidge this month:
"Calvin Coolidge: An American Enigma" by Robert Sobel
"Coolidge" by Amity Shlaes
"The High Tide of American Conservatism: Davis, Coolidge, and the 1924 Election" by Garland Tucker
Thoughts on any of these? I like what I know of Coolidge so far, and I'm interested to see how the books differ from one another.

Great book!
