Lew Rockwell's take on Ron in Iowa

Its obvious that Rand's campaign is doing this as a last ditch effort. Ron's presence can only hurt Rand but they are willing to give it a try in desperation because with his polling so low it might actually help.

Now that's not to say that Ron or his supporters should've been alienated as much as they have been but doing and saying exactly what Ron did in 2012 was a guaranteed way to lose. The trick would've been to continue Ron's momentum from 2012 with a few tweaks. Unfortunately that didn't happen for various reasons which I won't go in to publicly.

Your opinions are worth less than toilet paper.

And if Ron handled some things differently, they would not be as effective as marginalizing him.

For as much as you like to talk about how much of your thinking you hold back here, you sure have become unmuzzled when it comes to your criticism of Ron Paul's political savvy in comparison with your own over the past half year or so.

Deny it all you want, but it stinks of bad blood, and it's unlikely that it's pure coincidence that this became most apparent subsequent to the Pauls' cutting ties with your hero Jesse Benton (the buffoon and snake about whom you still never seem to have anything bad to say).

This notion that we are going to educate people or change people's mind is a fallacy and is not how elections work.

Ron Paul being the very rare exception to this. I have always said winning political campaigns are more about prospecting than persuasion. Finding voters that have a pre-existing agreement with you and putting them into a meticulous database to be used for GOTV. In baseball they have a phrase, "get 'em on, get 'em over, get 'em in". Educating on pure libertarian philosophy can been accomplished through other entities like Mises.org et al. Coming to libertarianism is a process of self discovery and everyone has their own learning curve. Even though Rand made the mistake of watering down the message initially, he will forever be tagged as a libertarian or libertarian leaning by the media and every time they label him more and more people will begin that process of self discovery. Liberty will grow as a result of Rand's efforts regardless of the horse race.

I don't have interactions with you often Collins and I was ready to let this one die but you have to keep prodding don't you?? You're like a woman who has to have the last word. Why can't you just start making positive comments about Ron and Rand and try to give SUPPORT instead of criticism?? Is that so damn hard for you?? If you can't give support then just go work on some other campaign then (there's plenty of them out there...)

And if Ron handled some things differently, they would not be as effective as marginalizing him.

I don't buy it. The media never reported Ron Paul's message. How would tweaking his original message increase the palatability of the lies the media was creating?

I've grown in my ability to get things done politically.

Well you must have lost your ability to remember. I said plenty bad about Jesse in the past, but I also know him and realize that 98% of the garbage attributed to him is untrue. You do realize he is the reason that Ron got into the race in 2012, right?

And no there is no bad blood at all. Ron and Rand are the best elected officials we have had, possibly ever. Rand is way more effective than Ron ever was, but unfortunately the momentum from Ron has not been used to its fullest potential.

Oh they did report it, but they would often take it out of context, or twist it. Unfortunately the way Ron said and phrased things it made it easy for them to do. That was the problem, Ron needed to be tighter in his messaging and with more broad based appeal.
