Let's ask Bloomberg to back Paul

My apologies if there's a thread on this already.

NYC Mayor and billionaire Michael Bloomberg has said he will NOT run as a 3rd party candidate for the Presidency in 08

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/28/nyregion/28bloomberg.html?scp=2&sq=bloomberg&st=nyt

But it looks like he's shopping for someone to back. Says he's looking for someone independent, w/a game plan, etc etc you can read the article.

So why don't we ask him to back Ron Paul. It may be unlikely, but you never know.

I just sent him an email asking him to consider backing Dr. Paul. You can email the Mayor here: http://www.nyc.gov/portal/site/nycg...=http://www.nyc.gov/html/mail/html/mayor.html

He wouldn't endorse Ron Paul, they are nearly polar opposites. Mike Bloomberg is a pro-war liberal in the mold of Joe Lieberman, not exactly someone who'd love Ron Paul.

It wouldn't be worthwhile, Bloomy already knows who he's going to endorse. The only reason I can see why he ruled out a run is because Nader announced.

NO NO NO!

This is my response to an earlier thread...it bears repeating again...

We are talking about the same Bloomberg right? The one who feels that the Second Amendment should not exist? The one who tries to set up out of state gun dealers and sue them in New York City courts? Ask the Gun Owners of America whether Bloomberg is a friend of Liberty. Still not convinced? Then read this

http://archive.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2007/5/22/204735.shtml

Bloomberg is NOT your friend, NOT Dr. Paul's friend and NOT a friend of the Constitution

We need to try to get Bloomberg to support Paul. Even if it doesn't work, its worth a try.

I'll admit not knowing his politics, but he is RICH. lol.

Plus, he was a Republican. And the article says he's willing to back someone he might not necessarily agree with on the issues.

You all are probably right, but why not flood his mailbox anyway. Might get his attention. Paul's the only true "independent" anyway.

From what I understand of Bloomberg he is very left wing. That said, Ron Paul is no dummy. RP has shown he can work with both all sides of an issue and concede certain points in light of a greater purpose. I hope RP would give some thought on this idea. He has stated that his running mate probably wouldn't be a fellow Republican neo-con and I wouldn't put it past him to reach outside to find common ground.

It'd be great if Bloomberg would endorse him - it would bring in lots and lots of media attention, it would bring in lots and lots of Money.

Of course, with most of the primaries being over and with it improbable that RP gets the Republican nomination, I guess Bloomberg would have to decide if he has to back the guy who wins.

But again - how much effort does it take to write an email (300 word max), expressing your opinion? I say let's flood his mailbox - maybe it would just make him think.

I think some left-wingers, if explained the policies of free-markets, might just understand that free-markets is the answer they've always been looking for - only they've been tricked by mainstream thought and the MSM, misconstruing what is "conservative" and what is "liberal" many times.

We can lose all the primaries and still win the nomination if we just get the delegates, that is all that matters.

While we're at it, why don't we ask Bloomie to ask for Ron Paul's VP slot on a third-party ticket. We would get his billions and billions to fund the campaign, and then ensure Dr. Paul's chance of getting shot as president, I mean "a shot".

Bloomberg is the sort of person who would read '1984' and think its dystopia sounded like a good idea.

I had an initial thought when I read the article but then I said, nah no way in hell would he support RP, anyway I hope I;ll be proven wrong but this should probably go next to the billionaire threads about the man who was going to support RP.

What if the Ron Paul army got Bloomberg to back Nader and split the left vote?

All the 3rd-party people here should like that simply to prove the 3rd-party idea.

Consider:

Paul=40% (wins)
Obama=30%
Nader=30%

Clinton won in 1992 with 43%.
