The Guardian has released a briefing on what is to be the 5PM ET full release of the latest group of WikiLeaks files.

The timely focus: China and North Korea.

Here are the juiciest details:
  • China's vice-foreign minister called 2009 missile tests by North Korea the actions of a "spoiled child"
  • China has prepared for 300,000 North Korean immigrants if the situation becomes unstable
  • The vice-foreign minister of South Korea said two Chinese officials told him Korea should be reunified under Seoul's control

Bump. This shows the argument that China would involve itself were the US to help SKorea invade the North to very likely be bunk.

Indeed. Is this a real wiki leak? I havent looked at any of them. North Korea should be ended. But not by military force.

yup...it's been primarily us (ie: US Government) that has stood in the way of voluntary reunification of the two countries :T

I think China only considers NK as a buffer between them and a US occupied SK. I suspect if the US withdrew from SK the Chinese would probably work to undermine the Kim Jong Il and try to Unify Korea under SK government. There is no reason the Chinese should be allies with the north rather than the south. NK being a Communist country is not any more a compatible ally with the now capitalist PRC than it is with the capitalist SK.

I could care less about Korea other than it has been a constant PITA through my entire life.
We should get out and let it blow it's self up.

Truth be told, S Korea would not exist but for US and UN involvement.
It would have long ago been "unified" perhaps as a communist country, failed, reorganized and be standing on it's own long ago.
Much like Viet Nam.

It's another failed experiment in imposition.
:(

Ya know what, I'd be all for that. If China and South Korea agreed to wipe Dear Leader's army and government off the face of the Earth and Korea was finally unified, under South Korean control, that would be a good thing for the world.

South Korea is a peaceful, capitalist country that likes to have awesome internet speed. I think the North Koreans would love to have the opportunity to be freed from Little Kim's dictatorship.

Unfortunately, nobody in NK will ever hear about these leaks except the regime leaders. But maybe that's enough. Would they be stupid enough to aim a missle at the PRC for selling them out?
