Ok, I expected to show up this morning and see this thread already but since it is not up I will start it.


Santorum sweeping the win last night is a gift.

Remember, Mitt Romney has tons and tons and tons of cash. Santorum does not. And he is a horrible candidate. Let him take delegates and Romney, who cares. He will not be the nominee.

What this does is take some wind out of Romney's sail, which is important.

Maine is the last election before 3 weeks of nothing. If Ron Paul can win Maine, he will be fresh in everyone's mind as the guy who won.

And all non-Romney candidates will have 3 weeks to attack Romney.

I disagree. Missouri is nothing, but for S to take so many is a problem in becoming antiRomney, obviously. And makes Romney desperate for Maine rather than more focused elsewhere.

But it is what it is. Ron did really well in MN.

If nothing else, last night re-shuffled the deck. Short of winning, it's the best result we could have hoped for.

It's a new day. Let's make the most of it. Ron is on fire with his speaking lately. The race is still wide open.

I'm pretty much in complete agreement with you -- a win would have been nice in Minnesota, but barring that it's best that Santorum took the wins rather than Newt or Mitt, since they have been primed as national frontrunners by the media at one point or another.

Santorum win throws a monkey wrench into the race - there are now completely different winners for different regions of the country, while Paul keeps going steady and showing muscle in different areas of the country.

On balance, I agree that the Feb. 7 result was the best outcome other than an outright Number 1 placing by Ron Paul in one or more states.

But it is not without risk, and I can't be so sanguine about the big Santorum win. He is not as unelectable as you think. No one has ever lost money by underestimating the intelligence of the US public. Remember what H.L. Mencken said? "Democracy is the system in which voters get what they asked for, good and hard".

Santorum will now raise significant donations. He is a threat to be sure, not only to other candidacies, but more importantly to our civil freedoms. His real-world results to date, overcoming a lack of funds and organization, show the degree of that threat. If he is elected, he will be intent on instituting his own version of Sharia law. (Quite an irony, there). And the risks of a major war would rise exponentially.

If worse came to worse, and Romney was elected or Obama re-elected, we could probably muddle through. Santorum on the other hand would be an even worse outcome than Gingrich.

Agreed it was a good thing. Romney will be doing well in Michigan...a huge state...and it will have been very important to curb his momentum before he went into Super Tuesday.

Also, with Romney not doing so hot, this will compel him to attend the Arizona debate in a couple of weeks. Very important as I suspect he would not have showed up if he had done better...and this will give Paul a better chance to get his message out...while Santorum/Gingrich/Romney destroy each other.

Am quite looking forward to Romney using his huge campaign war chest to devastate Santorum with negative ads.

Yeah, I think it was better than Romney winning, and I didn't expect Paul to win. This means the race is far from over which gives Ron Paul a chance to continue convincing people. I'm not discouraged by last night at all.

Getting the message out is key to winning elections, especially in our case where the media is against us.

Remember, the others don't HAVE a message.

Rick Santorum should never have come this far. The man is an absolute whackjob with ZERO crossover appeal.

Ron should have stomped him out last summer but everyone said no, you should never "punch down" in politics. Well the whacko won Iowa and look where we are today.

Actually, it would have been better if Ron Paul had placed second, instead of placing fourth in Colorado and third in Missouri (where Gingrich wasn't on the ballot).
