Technically, what is happening here is that these industries and politically active networks like Koch Industries are manipulating political infrastructure to protect themselves from the free market. There is no other way to say it. It's exactly what they are doing here. If people aren't of the means to know what it is that they are consuming into their bodies because these industries have got together with members of congress to specifically void the states right to label genetically modified food stuff via legislation that is derived from their own pen then there is no platform for choice in any way for the natural citizen to make a choice. This is both treason and corruption on the part of the congressman and certainly corruption on the part of the industry.

And it is absolutely disfranchisement of citizens and states rights.

Here's the thing; at the end of the day, while I think States' rights is ultimately better than the extreme level of Federalism we currently have, I still think it's flawed, and would oppose labeling laws as vehemently on the state level as on the federal level.

Ultimately, it should be up to food producers and the stores they are sold in to make this decision; if there's a demand for it, it will arise. Even with the current system, if you want to avoid GMOs, it's easy; buy organic or foods that have already chosen to voluntarily label themselves as "no GMO".

Forcing labeling on the population (state or federal) is just as tyrannous as banning labeling on the population (state or federal); it's anti-freedom and anti free market.
