Kerry Gives Russia Monday Deadline

It isn't about Ukraine, it is about maintaining the USA's position as the top dog in the world.

And the US is going to lose this position ironically by trying to be the top dog (foreign intervention).

Iraq and Afghanistan cost trillions of dollars; who knows what this endeavor in Ukraine will cost before it's all said and done.

I'm wondering if Kerry is really this screwball stupid, or he is really doing this deliberately, to defuse the DC interventionist hawks in the interests of restoring realism in foreign policy. His creating a blatant backdoor for Syria to shutdown the drumbeat for a bombing last fall could be re-considered as another prime example of Kerry monkey-wrenching the hawks from the inside, if this theory is correct. Ditto for his clumsy absolutism with regards to the Iran negotiations---it also has made the interventionists look super bad.

Its more policy dictates screwball stupid things.

Obama can threaten sanctions, or Global Thermo-Nuclear War. There is no in between. You can't have a limited war with Russian troops. Obama doesn't have the balls to even bluff war with Russia, so its sanctions or fold. A sane person would fold. An insane person threatens Thermonuclear war. The Egotist threatens sanctions.

The problem with the sanctions is that they will give Russia an excuse to go the full monty on the dollar.

Another line in the sand we have no business drawing. What will they do when it is crossed?

But Bush and Co. followed through on the screwball policies, along with Obama (first term), and invaded and bombed. Since O's re-election, it's as if they're proceeding in an intentionally over-reaching manner, in order to be pushed back. As with war, so with sanctions---Russia is not the country to threaten with either, so I don't expect any sanctions voted for to be enforced.

US leadership is really stupid or they're doing someone else's bidding.

The idea that Crimeans have no right to self-determination through a democratic process but the Kosovars, Sudanese and others do is laughable. The idea that this vote is illegitmate but the coup d'etat in Kiev was alright is also difficult to explain.

Kosovo? Yes.
South Sudan? Yes.
Timor L'Est? Yes.
South Ossetia? No.
Abkhazia? No.
Nagorno Karabakh? No.
Serbs in Bosnia? No.
Kurdistan? Maybe a little.

The US is so hypocritical.

I'm sure it is, but they can't though. That dog dug itself a hole it can't get out of.

I suppose starting a thermonuclear war is a good way to solve the world's debt problems.

Well, say goodbye to the best dash cam youtubes the world has ever known.

But maybe nothing compares to the british government´s double standar
Its current position contradicts its historical views about the right to self determination in the the falkland islands.

The british traditional position about the islands may be seen diminished by its current rhetoric in Crimea.

Falkland Islands: respect overwhelming 'yes' vote, Cameron tells Argentina
Cameron insisted that the islanders were entitled to the right to self-determination. "It is the clearest possible result there could be," he said.

"The Falkland Islands may be thousands of miles away but they are British through and through and that is how they want to stay. People should know we will always be there to defend them.

"We believe in self-determination. The Falkland Islanders have spoken so clearly about their future and now other countries right across the world, I hope, will respect and revere this very, very clear result."

The current rhetoric about the right to self determination has changed just a little

The West is so morally bankrupt. The hypocrisy knows no bounds.
