The special election one is for the last two months of this year, the other is starting in January.
Does he have to win the General election with at least 50%?

what is the difference between the special election and the general election?
he's won but it isnt a ringing endorsement with 50% of the vote, we're going to have to work hard to hold this seat
I hope he can keep it. Illinois booted Joe Walsh after one term. He was also a fairly weak candidate. The Democrats handcrafted a district for a special interests Queen.
You guys did a tremendous job up there! What a coup for the liberty movement to pull this off.Wonderful to see that we finally pulled it off. We were at the victory party last night for like 3 hours then decided to leave cause Kerry wouldn't come down until a media outlet officially called it for him. There was, however, free drinks and great hors d'oeuvres all night long. It was interesting to see and talk to the Kerry supporters that were also died in the wool republicans that were hoping so much for a Mitt win. I'm glad this is over for now since it's been an uphill battle at every turn in this race. I was worried that we might not pull off the special election since the Dem turnout in most of the Wayne co portion of the old district was so high. But our work payed off!! Hi-5s all around.
Still, this guy will need to work his rear end off in the next two years to provide great constituency services. Otherwise he's DOA in 2014.
From 'If you don't vote for the Republican you're not a team player and you're participating in the incrementalization to the Left,' to 'don't vote for the Republican if someone, somewhere might consider him laughable,' to...
...'conservatism sounds fine but it's dead because you have to essentially be a Democrat to win.'
No wonder the GOP is dying. Conservatively speaking, it's all hat and no cattle.
Yo, DeMint worshipper--you ever hear of the Ninth and Tenth Amendments? Let Lansing provide the 'constituent services'. A federal congressman's highest calling is to drain the swamp.
Congressman Elected Kerry Bentivolio said:"I'm going to do my best to have the best constituent services in the nation," said Bentivolio, who added that he supported McCotter in past elections but never had his concerns addressed by the congressman. "Our staff will be well-trained. I'm going to test them ... send somebody posing as a citizen to see how well our staff performs."
