KentuckyFight.com - Let's get it on! September 23rd!

That just all sounds like really esoteric stuff. Really, who knows anything about McCain being against ultimate fighting? Who knows anything about there being some kind of rivalry between boxing and ufc? Who actually goes to mma sites? How many of those people are over 30? And how many of them are politically active?

Boxing is universal. Even non-boxing fans at least get it. MMA/UFC is a niche.
UFC 100 - 1,720,000 Pay Per View buys (Lesnar vs. Mir II)

Niche my ass.

More people know what boxing actually is though. I didn't even know of 'ultimate fighting' until like a year ago.

A website with a UFC theme would work better than a boxing theme, especially on the internet.

I agree, if the target audience is only people into boxing and/or UFC.

However, if trying to reach people not really into either (which I think is a majority of people) then boxing wins hands down. Everyone knows what a boxing ring is.

Boxing rings also look exactly like Professional Wrestling rings. What if they get the two confused? Oh, and Pride, which is ultimate fighting in Japan, has the same ring! Wait. Who cares what the ring looks like?

UFC it is.

Wasn't the last money bomb theme horseracing? The theme doesn't matter a great deal. It's more about proliferation of quality youtube videos promoting the money bomb and getting the word out to social networking sites.

Yeah I don't think it matters either way. The banners will look like a payperview fight between two fighters.

No one will be able to to discern between the two.

Agreed. A picture of two men facing eachother with "X vs Y" under it is enough for most people to know you're talking about a fight, regardless of the shape of the ring in the background.

True. And much of the boxing language that might get used--throw his hat in the ring, down for the count, throw in the towel--is so much a part of the language I sometimes wonder how many people even knows where it comes from.

The fact that the biggest worldwide draw a UFC match has ever had on pay-per-view is less than the daily viewership of Larry King does not engender confidence in its widespread appeal, especially given that that's made up of mainly younger, and relatively less politically active people. Compare that to the literally hundreds of millions of people who have seen a Rocky movie.

If we want something that makes sense to a general audience, then boxing is the way to go.

Good points but

Larry King = Basic cable

Payperview fight = $45

Like I said before though, I won't have any references to UFC on the site.

If you want to promote it with a rocky themed boxing youtube then go ahead. Some may want to make ufc themed youtubes.

Tailor the message to your audience. :)

I was pretty psyched about shopping McCain's face onto Jabba the Hut if you all are looking for a compromise lol

How about a photoshop of Rand training for this fight...maybe a towel hanging around his neck while giving a speech or a vid of Rand running through the streets of Lexington with a crowd of supporters/carrying signs following behind....

There's already a resemblance in their hair - maybe just photoshop the face?

YouTube - Rocky II Training

At the end running up the steps of the capital.....
