Kelley Paul: ‘I’m going to work hard to elect Rand Paul’

BEDFORD, New Hampshire – The first-in-the-nation primary state received a visit from a potential first lady Wednesday.

Kelley Paul, the wife of Republican presidential candidate Sen. Rand Paul, received a warm welcome from a crowd of mostly women in a private home where she stopped to promote her new book,“True and Constant Friends.” “I want to support Rand however I can,” Kelley told msnbc, adding, “I think that we need some new leadership, so I’m going to work hard to elect Rand Paul.”

Kelley said her role in the campaign is to support her husband and the rest of their family as they “juggle travel and a lot of demands” on their time. “I see myself giving some more speeches probably, helping with some of his messaging.”

The Kentucky senator’s wife is a former political consultant and will play a larger role in this campaign than her mother-in-law, Carol – the wife of three-time presidential candidate Ron Paul – ever did. “I think the Ron Paul campaign lost out by not using Carol more, early and often. Because once she started kind of putting herself out there, people absolutely loved ‘Luvie,’ as we call her. I would have liked to see more of her in Ron’s campaign.”

This! Carol is just so sweet! I had the pleasure of meeting her several times, and she would have made an absolutely awesome First Lady. Everybody who talked to her instantly loved her, she's simply adorable, modest, and down to earth. Kelley would be an entirely different type or style of First Lady, but that's not a bad thing at all - I agree entirely with those who have called her Rand's secret weapon, or compared her to Jackie O. She could very easily be this generation's Jackie O, and would not only seem to be comfortable with the role, but would know exactly how to play it perfectly.

Is Kelley conducting a public book tour to sign copies, etc.?

I've only seen private events mentioned.

So true!

Second this sentiment.

I had the honor of going to Ron Paul's annual BBQ a couple of years ago, and while Ron was clearly only talking to people because he felt obligated, Carol initiated conversation with me and probably spent 30 minutes talking to me mostly about her family. I'd say she was hands down the nicest person at the BBQ and quite honestly one of the nicest people I've ever met.

Hopefully, some of Carol has rubbed off on Kelley. She's off to a pretty good start.

I don't know if it would be productive or not, but it would be pretty cool to see Carol at an event or two supporting Rand.
