Just some Numbers for ames

I think we should have a BIG Campaign rally during the week of Ames. Something similar to what we did for the Rally for the Republic. Reserve an arena in the Des Moines area and have 10,000+ supporters show up and hold a money Bomb as well......then win the straw poll of course.

It was never reported that lack of funding caused Dr. Paul's miserable fifth place showing in 2008. There is no way it could have as the Guy Fawkes money bomb, and the Boston Tea Party money bombs had already taken place and both been wildly successtul.

I can assure everyone that there are efforts underway in Iowa as we speak. That's all I can say for now.

@ Shemdog
I just sent all 3 Iowa coordinators from Iowa an email inviting them to join us on this thread and help us organize for Ames.

I'm not sure if we can expect any direct and explicit help from Campaign For Liberty for the Iowa Straw Poll, because of their tax status. They can't be really support specific candidates in elections. They encouraged people to go to CPAC but didn't have anything explicitly for a Ron Paul campaign. I think the Ames straw poll is a different game and is more clearly in the campaigning realm.

So I think we may need to wait for Ron Paul to form a 2012 campaign before we get official help. That said, we can still do stuff on the grassroots level. I'm not sure what is most effective though. The official campaign will surely end up sending out many emails to any existing supporters in Iowa, encouraging them to attend.

Maybe we could start an effort to send hand written letters to Republican voters in the state. I know some people tried that in the 2008 campaign and it seems like something that could be effective on a large scale. We could also maybe designate individuals to each adopt a college nearby and it could be their responsibility to seek out any liberty groups or individuals that could help get students to attend. Much of that could be organizing done online.

Those are just a couple thoughts.

I think out of staters are fine since it's questionable if they check.

Having said that, they have a policy that no out of staters are allowed to vote, and some say they enforce this.

If it is the same as last time, they will check that you have a state ID before you can get in the voting area, which is filled with Diebold electronic voting equipment.

Is the ID run through a machine linked to database, or just given a visual inspection?

IIRC, visual inspection. Someone who would go to the trouble of forging (or using) a state id to vote in the caucus is risking a felony on their record. And, Iowa does not fuck around when it comes to prosecuting stupid people for doing stupid things. Worrying about another campaign doing this is not even on my radar.

I think they do database the ID numbers to guard against multiple votes by the same person. A bunch of volunteers with laptops out, checking ID's and giving out voting sheets (scantron style bubble sheets which are read by the electronic machines). IIRC, they swipe the drivers licenses right there and the computer tells them whether the person has already voted.

Start strong in Iowa

It was never reported that lack of funding caused Dr. Paul's miserable fifth place showing in 2008. There is no way it could have as the Guy Fawkes money bomb, and the Boston Tea Party money bombs had already taken place and both been wildly successtul.

With so many candidates, ten percent wasn't a "miserable" showing, but a slightly better effort (14 percent) would have won third place and some momentum going into New Hampshire....

And the money bombs came too late last time -- the money was barely starting to be spent in Iowa and New Hampshire, and not especially effectively. We need to start much earlier this time around, and will.

There is a big project that is underway right now for Iowa. It will become public within the next week.
