Just got off the phone with HQ

I didn't say he isn't going to win. I should've worded my post more carefully; I was merely saying that it was possible that RP didn't win.

You didn't say possible, you said likely. Those lie on the opposite sides of the spectrum.

Guys, chill out. I think we could win, but I think it's possible that we could lose. I also am aware that even if we do (lose) the movement doesn't end here, and our efforts are not for naught.
I should've worded my post more carefully and I acknowledge that. Now let's move on and stop this pointless infighting.

Thats nice to hear. Lets stop the pointless negativity though, and there will be less infighting.

Yes, I take responsibility for poorly wording my post, and you were right to call me on it.
But the gist of my post was important, I think.

If that is the case, I don't know why you should have any high level contact with the campaign. They sure as hell don't need to waste time on someone that doesn't believe in them.

He is just being a realist...Leave him alone, this is not the time to bicker with each other internally while our man is being smeared.

You probably want to get (1) a RP supporter who has done the research, preferably a minority, to refute the contentions; and (2) a meticulously researched rebuttal piece, complete with footnotes and sources.

(3) One or more (better) minority supporters that have personally known Ron Paul and would willing to vouch for his character

I think this would go a long way in putting this stupid issue to bed permanently.

"our man is being smeared", well to imply he can't win is almost a smear.

He didn't mean it, but damn, if you don't think he can win, you're probably in the wrong place here. You are helping bring about your own prediction the more you say it anyway.

This thread should die...create another with suggestions for the campaign to use in addressing the problem.

That's a good idea. I personally am divided over whether to merely let it blow over or to refute it.

Press Release tonight??? Not a good idea. That will just fuel media stories on voting day! Wait till tomorrow after the voting. This story is going nowhere right now.

I agree-- HQ should wait on this and respond when this starts getting picked up and attention is on NH primary voting

Well, I for one have urged Dr. Paul (on this very forum) to put these "racist"issues to rest once and for all. I have as well noted that Dr. Paul refuses to do just that in any convincing fashion.

Now, why Dr. Paul could not find the wherewithal to just come out personally and distance himself from the Don Black donation, for example, as a symbol of his absolute refusal to lie with known racists is just nuts. Instead, Paul decided to finally speak through a spokesperson on the issue, but not before allowing the issue to simmer and grow legs first. Yet another example of bad judgment concerning, of all issues, Racial issues with Ron Paul....

Now, before you guys jump all over me yet again, ask yourself this: if Rudy, or else any other candidate that is competing for the Republican nomination, had offered up some "ghost writer" excuse for apparent racist comments in a political newsletter ostensibly written by him, would you believe it? What, he can't control what's written in his own news letter under his own name? Would you really believe that excuse? What if he had waited years before finally offering up the "ghost writer" excuse?

Or, would you guys instead start 73 threads here ridiculing such a preposterous notion? Be honest with yourself if you can't be honest here....

As a postscript to my last, yes, I have written the campaign as well. I have received absolutely no response, nor do I expect one.

Look for Ron Paul to mention it on Leno tonight. Something along the lines of 'They're scared of me. Now they're going to try to smear me.'

The thing is Ron did react, he fired the guy immediately. This was when he was not in Congress and before he had any plans to run again. So it was not a publicity stunt to fire the guy. Ron is a consistent guy so if he was racist, you would think it would show and everyone would know. People like Rudy are inconsistent and lie constantly, so it would much harder to believe this. Ron only tells the truth and he has the same ideas for 30 years ago. I don't fall for it.

Courtney, I have read and agreed with this and with your previous perceptive posts on this subject. I agree that the campaign has handled this very poorly and in a potentially damaging way. Hopefully they will be far more forceful in their condemnation of racism and racists this time around.

Thanks Cardinal Red. I hope along with you, but I'm beyond holding my breath, unfortunately....

areyou4real,
Yes, Ive seen the clip. However, the point is that it's like pulling teeth to get Paul to take on the issue pro-actively. He simply refuses -- even in the face of negative media attention. Instead, he waits until asked point-blank about it, and even then, he tends to leave himself wiggle room.

Ask yourself this. If there were suggestions along with damning evidence being passed around media circles (for years) concerning the possibility of Dr. Paul having beat his wife, for example, do you think he'd treat that topic any differently, like, maybe more pro-actively and aggressively?

Surely he would, or else any reasonable person can be forgiven for inferring some validity to the claims....
