I disagree with this assessment. Atheists don't believe in a god, agnostics don't believe that a god can be either proven or disproven.

Kind of like if Ron Paul were to say "I will absolutely not run 3rd party," rather than the current "I have no plans to run 3rd party."

Agnosticism and Atheism are not mutually exclusive. One can have a lack of belief in a god but still acknowledge that we don't know for certain whether or not the universe was created by a magical diety.
