John McCain on RP at the MTV forum

McCain said:
"I don't know the fact concerning more contributions from men and women in active duty, it may be accurate," he said. "But I visit them too much and hear from them too much. ... They aren't fighting over there for oil and they aren't fighting for empire and they aren't fighting illegally. They're fighting because they want America to be safe, or they wouldn't be out there putting their lives on the line. Frankly, Congressman Ron Paul is wrong."

Someone should also remind McCain that the military is running out of kids to dupe into believing that they are serving their country by going to Iraq. That's why people are getting out faster than they are enlisting.

So let's see.

Enlistment numbers down......
Exit numbers up......
More money to the Anti-War Republican.....

That's pretty much incontrovertible evidence right there McCain. People don't want to join the military right now because they don't believe in the ideology behind the it's current operations. Imagine if Mexico was building a huge, advanced army and beginning to move it around at the borders. Or if a foreign enemy was staging in Mexico. Do you think enlistment would be going down and exits going up? Neither do I. The ideology behind current events definitely effects enlistment.

hahaha McCain's answer is lame...he can't explain why Ron Paul gets more contributions than anyone else all he can say is "you're wrong I don't care and I know what the military thinks"

Man how lame, but then again, what else could he say?

he is such a lying sob. All he did was BS the question by saying the men and women in army support me and RP is wrong.

he is such a lying sob. All he did was BS the question by saying the men and women in army support me and RP is wrong.

Yeah, but what else could he possibly say knowing that it's a fact that Ron Paul gets more military donations than himself?

I think it's one of those self fulfilling prophecy type things...the soldiers know he's pro-war, so when he gets down there, he's surrounded by pro-war soldiers and the anti-war ones don't even bother talking to him. So he gets a distorted sense of their sentiment.

They aren't fighting because they want to be there. They are FORCED to be there and it is there job to be there.

McCain is a demagogue, pure and simple. He really doesn't have any substance as far as I'm concerned. He hides behind the men and women in the military because no one would dare say anything against them. I'm tired of McCain's bullshit.

lmao its funny....but seriously how could he respond to that but other than he doesnt care and RP is wrong....if he said RP was right he would look like a dumbass...not saying that he isnt but still lol

"They aren't fighting over there for oil and they aren't fighting for empire..."

Paul has only leveled that charge against our government and its policies, Mr. McCain. Why can't you see that?

"...and they aren't fighting illegally."

I can't believe he'd even touch that issue. He doesn't have to (most of that audience probably doesn't care about legality when it comes to universal health care, for example), and he's patently wrong. I submit to you, Mr. McCain, the United States Constitution as a reading assignment. If you somehow graduate without doing your studies, just don't claim to be an expert.

"They're fighting because they want America to be safe, or they wouldn't be out there putting their lives on the line."

They have to fight because that's their job. And do you honestly think, Mr. McCain, that the troops would get into a political debate while on duty, let alone when being visited by a prominent United States senator?

"I don't care what the statistics are."

Wow. So the statistics don't determine fact, John McCain does. You, sir, are a tool of the highest order.

And to think this guy used to be the only warmonger for whom I had a shred of respect.

Hes old and confused!

McCain, like all the politicians that go there, talk to pre-screened groups of soldiers. As a soldier, you are under enormous pressure in these situations not to be controversial and just smile and be pleasant. If you tried debating a visiting politician about the war, you'd have big problems with your CO.

Anyone that has ever been in one of these little photo ops knows what I mean. The only outlet they have for speech is money - to Ron Paul.

He's popular because of 2 words over there "involuntary extension"

As a Corporal in the Marine Corps, let me tell you this: McCain is full of shit.

We all hate that place and we don't much care for the people or their culture. Nobody wants to be there.

When he delivered that "Let us win" line at the debate you could just about hear the whole barracks boo. My friend actually spit his beer all over my coffee table when he said that shit.

Dr. Paul was right, McCain is very emotional about this issue. I sensed some anger in his response.

John McCain is emotional about this because his credibility is on the line.

This goes back to Huckabee's comment in the Fox New Hampshire debate that we need to give the troops "the honor they deserve" by staying in Iraq and trying. The fact is, the troops' honor has never been at stake: they have all of the honor in the world for signing up for their country and serving it, even if the country they serve makes the mistake of sending them into a needless war. The only people's whose honor has been on the line the entire time has been the honor of the people who called for the war and who sent the troops to the war: the Bush Administration, John McCain, Joe Lieberman, Mike Huckabee, et. al. They're the only ones who have credibility at stake.
