Jim Demint says he will endorse

Actually I heard Jim Demint on the Jim Bohannon show the other night. He was plugging his book, talking about the debt ceiling. Bohannon was attempting to marginalize libertarians and DeMint defended libertarians as "reasonable and intelligent." Bohannon mentioned Rand Paul and DeMint had nothing but praise for him and Mike Lee.

Yes, I have heard DeMint mention this before too, though not that particular interview.

A DeMint endorsement is possible if we prove ourself at the Ames Straw Poll and legitimize our candidacy further with some higher poll numbers.

But I think we are getting more and more to where it would be possible.

It is worth noting that DeMint was a key proponent of the original "Audit the Fed" proposal in 2009, and brought a LOT of Republicans on board.

I think if Paul gets truly competitive, Demint will endorse him; or he'll wait until its clear to everyone Paul has no shot and endorse someone else.

Exactly. No one wants to endorse a LOSER for political reasons. If Dr. Paul has a reasonable shot at winning the GOP nomination over Romney, not only will he get Demint's endorsement but also Palin's. ;)

Yep.

S'why we need a strong showing in Ames.

He'll endorse Perry if he runs, otherwise Romney again or wait for a presumptive nominee.

When the Judge asked him what GOP candidate stands for sound monetary policy, smaller gov, etc., DeMint said none of them. He was hoping someone would step up.

THAT after he said he had been working closely with Rand Paul.

I am so tired of the empty rhetoric amd waiting for these compromised people to throw us a bone...

Do you have a video of this?

True. But you can't deny that it's a bone that would help... As for now, we have to do everything WE can do without thinking about endorsements. The endorsements will come in due time.

He told the crowd at SRLC that any candidates hoping for endorsements would need not apply if they didn't sign on to his Cap, Cut, Balance initiative. Ron was the first and few of them to sign on and Sen. Rand Paul has been Demints new best friend on Capital Hill. I doubt a pre-straw poll endorsement, but if we handle our business in Ames, I think Demint would back the true conservative candidate.

I think Ron making a splash with the debt ceiling puts him on great terms with DeMint, but we'll have to wait and see what happens.

DeMint 'disappointed' in Bachmann

(CNN) – Republican Sen. Jim DeMint said he's "disappointed" Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann has not signed the "cut, cap, balance" pledge to slash spending and balance the budget.
"I am disappointed," DeMint said Wednesday on CNN's "American Morning." "We have to stop spending more than we're bringing in."

Six GOP presidential candidates have signed the pledge so far. The Minnesota congresswoman argues it doesn't go far enough to bring down the deficit.
DeMint, a South Carolina kingmaker and early supporter of the tea party movement, has said a commitment to the pledge is necessary in order to win his support, which could prove valuable in the early voting state of South Carolina and within his larger conservative following.

Since Demint is my Senator I have emailed his office and requested he endorse Dr. Paul as the republican nominee for President.
