Jim DeMint Talks Up Ron Paul With Sean Hannitty
I'm starting to agree with the person who said that DeMint is already doing everything short of an actual endorsement of Ron Paul. He was the last guest on Hannity tonight, and opens talking about the book. He thinks this election may be our last chance. Now or Never, re: his book title. Hannity starts talking about the debt and spending. DeMint says we cannot sustain this. He says we can solve this problem and we can control our own destiny, but if we wait until things start collapsing, that's bad news.
Hannity asks about SC. DeMint says it is unfortunate that candidates get to make-or-break when SC arrives, and the negative campaigning heats up, so SC gets the brunt of that. "Polls look good for Romney. Ron Paul's going to do well. I'm not sure about the others". Hannity pivots to asking if DeMint thinks Romney could win. DeMint says the early polls look good for Romney but that things can change. Two weeks to go, he says.
DeMint says we are seeing interesting things and that he is concerned about GOP treating Ron Paul poorly.
Hannitty says he agrees with Ron on ending the Fed and that he would cut one trillion dollars on the first day he became President. DeMint said one day is extreme but it shows the gravity of the situation and that Republicans need to actually be conservative. Hannity pivots to Romney and asks if DeMint would be satisfied. DeMint dsays he thinks Romney would govern conservatively. He said he would be honored to serve with any of them. Hannitty asks if DeMint is worried about Ron Paul running third party.
DeMint says, and I quote verbatim: "I don't think he will. Sooner or later, we're going to get a third party as Republicans if we don't listen to that libertarian theme of individual liberty and limited government. I think you have seen people gravitate away from Republicans to Ron Paul because we are not doing what we say we are going to do. I am convinced, Ron Paul has a lot to offer, and I would be proud to serve with any of them." Hannity thanks DeMint and ends the segment.
DeMint is openly going out of his way to do everything short of formally endorsing Ron Paul.
