jim bunning holds the floor "tough sh--!"

fixed it for ya

Rand went as far as saying that he would use the filibuster to try to force declarations of war, which would be needed rarely.

Schiff, on the other hand, said he would use it to prevent the debt ceiling from being raised, which happens at least once a year.

ah!

wonder if Rand would take that pledge? maybe after the primary to the emphasize debt issue?

then again, im not sure filibuster promises are good for independent votes. im far from independent but the idea of filibuster (in general) frustrates me.

For me. it's not even that we can't afford it. It's that they didn't even try to figure out a way to pay for it.

I think the Democrats are calling him to yell at him for holding up their entitlements, so hopefully his phones are swamped by both parties.

i'm going to try and reach his office again on Monday to tell him I support his stance on this.

Well Bunning just moved up a couple notches in my book. I wish there were more Senators who would do this sort of thing. He should endorse Rand, especially if he hates spending.

The TV thing was for converter boxes, when they made the digital switch, I sent off for 2 since at some point in time I may not be able to afford to pay for cable . Now the cell phone for people on welfare really ticked me off more than the TV thing.
Question is why didn't the GOP use the same tactic about Health Care, the bailouts, the debt ceiling increase, the union protecting car company buy outs..............................

why should he get kudos for this. THey promised various extentions of UE benefits, then let them expire. For 20 years the UE trust fund has run massive surpluses and they drained the reserves, then when people need it most, and even depend on the promise they've made with the extension they cut them... To save what? 10 bil? UE pays peanuts. Max benefit is $425/week, which is taxed as unearned income (don't get me started).

But they'll take pork and tax cuts for wooden arrow makers into the bills. Discusting. I don't agree with mandatory UE insurance, but now they are stealing from people who paid in...BS

You're missing the bigger picture.

First, with wages falling, people collecting unemployment aren't trying to find work because they lose the benefits and may end up working for less. If they have bad luck and get laid off from the new job then they lose UE benefits. So where's the motivation to get off the government tit? There isn't one.

Second, after one or more years it's pretty safe to say that people have used up their "contributions" to the UE fund and are now just another leech on the system, taking in printed or borrowed money. The bigger issue is that these never-ending UE benefits contribute greatly to the lowering of living standards and dependence on government.

The fact that they shouldn't have spent all the money doesn't mean anything more than we shouldn't have trusted them with it in the first place.

Economists from both sides of the aisle agree, and studies back up the assertion, that the odds of an unemployed worker finding a job increase dramatically when that worker's benefits expire.

It's too easy to demagogue, but that doesn't make it less true.

Marcus Carey wrote a really good piece on it:
Every single republican running will say this year on the campaign trail that if elected he will oppose putting any more money on America's credit card. Jim Bunning just taught all these youngsters what it feels like to catch that car after you've chased it.

You can bark and make noise, or you can bite and take the beating, and not let go. Unless you are not paying attention, today Jim Bunning has been under a relentless attack. http://www.bluegrassbulletin.com/2010/02/ky-gop-senate-race-falling-down-a-rabbit-hole.html

He's right. If we can't make the GOP hear that we support Bunning's position in this, whoever wins his seat will have a tougher go of it.

Time for Rand to use this as a way to pivot to issues instead of mud slinging.

Both Grayson and Rand should be standing up against Mongiardo who is going to Bunning's office to hold a protest against Bunning's actions. Translation: Mongiardo will be Obama's pal if he is elected to the Senate.

Called his office again -- still busy!!!

They are getting ready to vote right now.
They are gonna vote on an alternate by Bunning (expected to fail)
