Here's one of the comments...

I am surprised that the Economist would publish this interview. It makes the Economist look terrible. I agree with all the comments above. I had not paid attention to Ron Paul before, thinking he was just a nut.

I apologize to all I used to look down upon before. Mr. Ron Paul is truly an amazing man. I have been looking for anyone to speak truth for a long time now and have been numb to the idiocy. But to hear a man who truly understand “ECONOMICS” something I previously thought this magazine did, well, it is like viewing the Emperor without his clothes for the first time.

I am grateful to the Economist for bringing me this interview for two reasons:

1. I got to view Ron Paul’s position for the first time and find a man of intellectual honesty. (I can’t wait to read more of the things he has said).

2. I was able to understand just how Socialist/Fascist/Marxist (Pick your poison) the Economist magazine is. Clearly, the magazine is in favor of the Government taking over the state and controlling all of the wealth in the country. As a Jew, this is terrifying to me. I remember. I wish others did.

AmConMag is getting better and better as a liberty resource.

They have blogs there like the "Tory Anarchist".

Anyway, they've got some stuff going on over there.

If you can afford it you should subscribe. They are an invaluable resource, but they've already had to scale back their print edition simply due to a lack of cash.

My gf's dad is the Europe editor for the Economist..I've been trying to get him to see Ron Paul in a different light for the past year, to no avail. I did have a few beers with him last night and gave him Meltdown as a gift, maybe he'll read it and actually understand what's happening to the economy....

lol.... but that would defeat the entire point of The Economist... to stick up for the establishment and cover for the politicians when they take people's freedoms away!

That's pretty much what I told him

weird, 'cos i was yelled at the other day because apparently ron paul hates all jews ..... (Israel foreign aid)

All of my Jewish friends support Ron Paul. I don't know what the big deal here is.

Many Jews don't like Ron Paul because he will cut off aid to Israel...they don't seem to get that he will also cut off aid to Israel's enemies.

some, such as myself think that is a good thing.

many Jews don't wish to be subsidized by the USA.. of course others.. ;)

What exactly is the importance of mentioning the persons religion? How does it pertain to their positions?

Jews are also an ethnic group and many believe Israel is there ethno-national center as dictated in the Bible thus feelings run strong if a candidate says he wants to quit subsidizing them.

Think Nazi Germany. Or read Hayek's "Road to Serfdom" in which the predominant theme is the state control of the factors of production. It was very relevant in context:

What about Nazi Germany? My family lived in that time in Germany and many are still there.... What's the point of mentioning this persons religion as it relates to this topic?

Sooooo all Jews think alike?

It was an attempt to tie in the complete state control of the means of production (of which we are all victims) which occurred under the Nazi regime to the related topic of Nazi oppression and persecution of the Jewish faith in the same country and time period. I don't really know what other connection needs to be made....

I'm not the one that wrote it, I just don't see how the connection he was drawing wasn't obvious to others reading the comment.

By the way, my father's family left Germany just about a decade before Hitler took power, and I too have relatives there....I neither support nor denounce the connection that was made, but I don't find it to be ethnically insensitive.

Change the thread title to "Man who used to think....." It wouldn't sound so racist, would it?

Ok, well you were very unclear whether you were upset with the thread title, or with the person who originally made the comment about being Jewish.

yeah, did the first word of the title have to be "Jew?" As if Jews aren't individuals unto themselves? I doubt you meant it is a derrogatory way, but I also dont think you would have begun the title "Irish Catholic...", or "Protestant Georgian..."
