Big Win For Ron Paul in Maine

With 95% reporting, Ron Paul has over 36% of the vote in Maine right behind first place finisher Mitt Romney, who has barely 39%.

But when all the votes are counted will Romney still be in first place? Only 194 votes stand between Paul and a first place victory. Washington County is a stronghold for Paul and has yet to report. It might be a week before we know the final outcome there and Washington County is expected to yield 200 votes or more.

Still, Maine is a state in Romney’s backyard that he should’ve been able to walk away with easily. That Mitt almost lost to Ron tonight–and that Mitt still may lose to Ron in the days to come–does not bode well for the establishment candidate. Romney shouldn’t have had to campaign in Maine and yet circumstances forced him to make a last ditch effort.

Santorum, riding high on Tuesday, was 20 points behind Paul tonight. Newt Gingrich, who won South Carolina with 41% last month, got only 6% tonight.

This was not a good night for Mitt Romney. It was a fantastic night for Ron Paul.

The GOP in Maine will not be recording/reporting the results from the rest of the caucuses.

Which means hopefully the people in attendance will be... creating some youtubes to show the results.

So the campaign can report in 2 weeks that Ron Paul won Maine, and provide the evidence that we closed the 194 vote gap...

That will be a good story going into super tuesday.

I know they said that but can they actually not do it or are they just saying that so we don't show up and change the "Official" result? You know when they count the final votes if Romney is still the winner they will be yelling it from the rooftops. I don't see how they can not count the votes. Anyone know the GOP rules that allow this to take place or are they just trying to keep Ron Paul people from showing up?

and because of Whitney Houston the bounce Romney might have gotten from CPAC and Maine won't happen anyway.

Has anyone here put forward the idea that Whitney was murdered to cover up a potential Ron Paul win in the media today?

Im surprised if no one here has yet.:)

If that were indeed the case, they didn`t coordinate very well with the Romney campaign lol

if you disagree with MAINE GOP policies, run for office and change the rules. stop whining.

The Washington County GOP chairman, Chris Gardner, makes it sound like they could change it on a whim, probably depending on the outcome.
...didn't realize it wouldn't be counted at all. He said he had called state party leaders and "expressed my complete and utter dismay."

Gardner, a Romney supporter, said the snowstorm had left him no choice but to postpone the caucuses.

"Refusal to reconsider under those circumstances would be extremely disheartening,"

"I trust that the party will make the right decision here."

If Ron Paul does actually win Maine, Drudge will show it. Hopefully he does and Drudge can slam Maine's GOP establishment.

Pointing out that a near loss in Romney's "back yard" was probably a bad move. That will come back to haunt us if he beats us in TX...

Just unreal...

This is pathetic.

> lose state
> say it was a "win for us"
> march onward
> repeat until Romney wins the nomination

This is true, economics & psychology 101 - people are self-interested - So can't expect much fairness from those running the system afterall they've their views & favorite-candidate too so we must overtake the system too & we'll our own candidates

> lose state
> say it was a "win for us"
> march onward
> repeat until Romney wins the nomination

> quitters & whiners
> keep talking about losing
> spread their loser-mentality
> totalitarian-state

> Romney wins the nomination
> Paul supporters leave GOP en masse & GOP is split
> GOP is history

> quitters & whiners
Realizing that we haven't won a state yet and how this is negatively impacting the campaign is not whining. And I'm not suggesting we quit. I'm suggesting we stop saying "Well, coming in second and third is really like a win!" It just isn't. It gives us a false sense that we are actually winning and that we don't need to work that much harder.

> keep talking about losing
We only talk about how we lose after we lose, which I think normal. And, I think it is something that needs to be discussed. Why are we losing and how can we win. Not, "Oh wow, second place in a state we thought we'd finish 1st in! #winning!" Give me a break.

> spread their loser-mentality
>spread their realistic attitude.
Don't worry... I fixed that one for you.

> totalitarian-state
Sounds about right if we don't start winning some states.

> Romney wins the nomination
See above.

> Paul supporters leave GOP en masse & GOP is split
Yes.

> GOP is history
Problem?

I highly doubt this. Did she support Ron Paul? If not, then this makes no sense whatsoever. She had a drug problem at age 48, it can kill people half her age.
