J.R.R Tolkien Libertarian Creator Of Middle Earth

Thanks! I bought "One Volume." I would want to read them in the order he wrote them. I'm assuming I will be with this edition. Never watched the films.

the lotr movies are good, but the hobbit movies are just terrible. and of course the books are always better. jackson did some wrong in lotr movies, but he got allot right as well.

forgot. my 14 year old son read through all the Narnia books twice and i will be reading to my other kids soon. I have read a couple books by Lewis. Mere Christianity and skrew tape letters. I also read a bio on the inklings by carpenter and the environmental vision of c.s lewis. if your into christian creation care/stewardship it is a great book.

Just reread The Hobbit Party: The vision of freedom that Tolkien got and the west forgot.

“Overly cozy relationship between politicians and capitalist, we we call this cronyism” such arrangements diminish economic freedom for the many by expanding monopoly power and special access to the privileged few...undermines local economic patters by uniformity favoring big corporations.”
-Jonathan Witt and Jay W The Hobbit Party: The vision of freedom that Tolkien got and the west forgot

“We must have power, power to order all things as we will, for that good witch only the wise can see.”
-Sauroman to Gandalf

“Satan promised Eve deathlessness, secret knowledge and enhanced power id she would disobey god and eat of the forbidden fruit [gen 3 4-5]. In middle earth the dark lord sauron promises much the same as he tempts the kings of Numonor to turn from the worship of Eru Ilvatar, set sail for the undying lands forbidden to them and claim the immortality he suggests is theirs by right of their greatness. Its all a lie of course and leads to their destruction. The creator, in his wisdom decrees that humans would be mortal...Tolkien refers to its tragic end as “the second fall of man.”

Oh, that sounds good, thank you for mentioning it. :) I was never into that in the past, but in the last year or two I have been interested in that topic.

Aragorn was proud of his blood through the whole series, which was opposite in the movies. That was where the movies failed, but they were otherwise very good. Aragorn was probably toned down because strong, masculine authoritarians weren't kosher w/ Kwa or something. He had to be a humble man of Christ-like proportions instead. Monarchy is bad, democracy is good...

Actually, he was Strider,, and went by his Ranger name through most of the story,, until "Return of the King"

Lol, and I just repped you. This is correct, he was known as a "ranger" in The Hobbit and didn't dawn the mantle of King until the end.

Thats not even being contended. Do I need to name all his names? He had more than those. And yet Aragorn is proud of his blood. Sorry. Call him what you want to save the appearance he was somehow not the King. He was haughty toward the Rohirim and routinely reminded those to whom they spoke. My point stands: he isn't a nice, servile king bending low to "duh peepol," and he takes no shit even from Gandalf. In the books he takes that crystal ball palanir from him, because its his birthright. In the movies, it's gussied up to look like a wise plan. He was inaccessible to mainstream audiences because he was exactly what a King should be, and Americans especially don't like that, because they're butthurt democrats at heart.

Denocrats?
There were no democrats in the books.

and Aragorn was a very reluctant King... Competent but not arrogant. He did not seek the position he was born to.

You really should read the books themselves rather than reviews or half baked commentary..

has anyone played total war? would not a LOTR total war make the best game ever?

He was never reluctant, going through the books now. You mean in the movies he was? Right. Not the book. There was never a shadow of doubt at his purpose, or the purpose of his mother in taking him into hiding. He never chose exile, as they say in the movie. He was so certain of his right to rule he fights with broken Anduril, because he will not be parted from his birthright. I really do recommend the books, you should read them :P

And yeah, he's what you'd probably call arrogant.
