I've made up my mind...

I look at it like this, I'm pissed and I want the GOP to feel my anger. I'm voting for Gary Johnson so that they will see the votes they are missing out on by not incorporating Ron Paul's/Liberty ideals.

Don't get so pissed as to go and vote for Obamma.. Then you just fall into their trap of 'well, I hate the other guy so much that I'm voting for this guy' that's bullshit.

While Gary Johnson isn't half the man Ron Paul is, he's on the right track, he pays respect to Paul and all of us.. or he at least tries to.

If the state of Missouri will count write-in ballots for Paul, then I'll do that. If not, I'll just vote for the Johnson.

Gary Johnson won't win, but if his votes deny Romney a state or the country, Liberty candidates will gain respect in 2016

I think you underestimate the rationality of the GOP. While working a LP tent at a local event I was berated by a guy that was red-in-the-face angry about how the LP will "cost the GOP the election." I told him that the GOP had a chance to nominate an electable candidate, that many LP voters would vote for the Dems before they voted for the GOP, and that the number of votes going to the LP probably won't be enough to bridge the gap in many swing states.

He walked away saying that "It's Your fault if Obama wins again!"

Remember that not everybody is rational.

I am leaning towards voting for Johnson I want my vote to be counted and I want the republicans to be pissed and I can't vote for Obama or Romney. I could sleep easy voting for Johnson. I think if we all voted for him he could actually win. There are a lot of people who do not want Romney or Obama and if they thought Johnson had a chance they might vote for him too. At least he is on the ballot in every state.

If nothing else if we all voted for Johnson we could see how many of us there are and maybe it would be impressive enough to gain something.

This is how I see it, when this convention is over, I can go into sleep mode and vote Romney or Johnson, and pretend they would at least do better.(at what I have no idea!)

Or, what I probably will do:

Find as many Romney dreamers as I can and tell them to put their money where their mouth is, and try to get even odds on the Rmoney. Use all the winnings to promote up and coming liberty minded people running for office.

Now that Romney has Ron Paul voters(not supporters)on his side, Obama will lose, anyone want to bet a democrat friend of mine that obama is going down, I'll take half the bet with you cause I believe Romney is going to crush that socialist.

Ofcourse, I believe the republicans are going to lose, but not by a lot. the media will control content and make sure we have a divided country so they can flip the vote if need be, and no one will be the wiser.

I need some time to pass before I commit to this idea, but a vote going to Obama is looking better and better as days go by. sure would have loved to vote for, and bet on Ron instead.

This was my first reaction as well, but after settling down my thought process was much like yours, I will be supporting Gary Johnson for president...I can no longer support the RNC, so another party must be made viable.

Wow you people are awesome. I made a post last night and there are 3 pages of responses, many of them well thought out. Logically, I can't wrap my head around having my vote uncounted. Now, if writing in RP counted (and I'm not an election guru) then it would make perfect sense. But I want to see CNN show that graphic on the TV on November 6th that liberty-minded people decided against red vs blue team and tallied over 10% of the total votes. That in my mind would be huge, surely outweighing a potential uncounted vote for RP. But let me say again, for all of us that devoted time, energy, wealth, and the goodness of our hearts to campaign for RP, I completely understand you writing him in to self congratulate yourself. Nothing wrong with that at all.

I'm currently watching Paul Ryan speak at the convention and its sickening. I talk to my 70 year old Father and he's still going to vote for Romney. After all these years of being lied to, he still totes the party line. We have to make a difference, we HAVE to be COUNTED this election.

I've been thinking a lot lately on who I will vote for this November. Co-workers, friends, and family are all asking me what am I going to do. What am I going to do? What are you going to do? Now here's the deal. I keep seeing that RP supporters are going to vote for Obama in what seems to be a protest vote among a myriad of other reasons. I also have seen RP supporters pledge the Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson. Others are thinking about writing in Ron Paul or even just not voting.

I'm going to try and break down each case the way it rolled through my head.

Write in Ron Paul: From what I understand, write in votes don't count unless the name is somehow registered with the election committee in each State. I see a scenario of a million votes going virtually uncounted and the media not skipping a beat. I don't see any real action from this except for self gratification of the disenfranchised voter, which is entirely acceptable given all the hard work from supporters. But will this amount to anything? It doesn't seem so unfortunately.

Not voting: Now this is an interesting idea. Not voting is essentially a protest vote against all candidates. Unfortunately, I don't believe this will be a viable option either. Sure, voter turnout would be lower but the media narrative can easily spin that on weather, high gas prices, too busy looking for work, etc. Voter turnout has been going down decades after decades, it's nothing new. The connection won't be made to a protest vote, so I don't believe this being effective.

Vote Obama: Forgive me if I get a little pissed but this is the worst idea I've heard. I hear that if Obama gets another 4 years it will make the next election easier to put forward a candidate. I've heard this EVERY 4 years since I could vote. It won't work. Period. In addition, I don't think the founding fathers risked their lives so you can play your little politics game with red team vs blue team. No self respecting, liberty loving individual can pull that lever for Obama (or Mitt for sake of discussion) just so you can take down the economy faster.

This is what I wrote when I first joined these forums:

I said that I was voting for Paul regardless of his chances. This was slightly in jest, since I didn't know much about the Liberty movement. I didn't hear about Gary Johnson until the debates started as well. But I must say that I did vote for Ron Paul in the primaries. Enough of this though, you get the point I think.

Which brings me to the last option I see, vote Gary Johnson. That answer satisfies the most in my mind. Millions voting for a candidate who is on all ballots in the country. A valid number of votes counted that directly can be attributed to a protest vote. Media will have a VERY hard time spinning this. Voting Gary Johnson will support the liberty movement and his ideals closely resemble Ron Paul's. This vote also isn't playing the red team vs blue team game. And most importantly, I think Patrick Henry, Thomas Jefferson, and all the rest of those kickass people who fought for our freedoms will be ok with that. Unless someone can point out a good answer to not voting for Gary Johnson this election other than the things I covered, I think we have an answer this November.

Give me liberty, or give me death!
I have come to the same conclusion. I endorse and approve your message!
