I've had somewhat of a change of heart

I've been quite negative on here since that letter and although I still have little hope for our presidential elections this year, I'm starting to understand why getting the message out was so important.
As long as we aren't under martial law after these elections I plan on running for Congress in 2010. My best friend is planning on starting in local politics, city council or mayor. And I'm sure many of you are now considering runs for political office. Maybe things won't get as bad as I anticipate and maybe by 2012 we'll have enough of Congress filled up with our guys and we'll be able to get a good guy in the Oval Office. I think we all have Ron Paul to thank for this because before he came along I'm sure a lot of us were either apathetic or brainwashed.
Although the light at the end of the tunnel is dim this year, in the coming years it'll be burning ever so brightly.

Martial law? What the hell, do you think this is Poland in the 80s? Supreme pessimism and willful denial of reality in that statement astounds me.

Dammit

I just looked up some information on running for Congress and unfortunately I will not be able to do so in 2010, I'll be waiting til 2012. I'm 22 years old so I have to wait. I guess I'll check into local office for now. Problem is, I don't know how a "Ron Paul Republican" would run at the local level since one of the main points of view for a RP Rep. is leaving a lot of decisions to the state and local levels and decreasing federal government size. I don't know what kind platform to run on for say, city council.

I would recommend the platform of "Common Sense". The irony is, of course, that there is nothing common about common sense.

The funny thing is... people think that the Ron Paul Forums are their personal psychotherapist.

Lmao. I felt so sad yesterday. Luckily for me, logic kicks into overdrive when I'm sad and remembered reading the words "temporarily focusing on the congressional run" yadda yadda so as not to lose credibility in his message.

After all, if people at home don't vote for you why should the country? I realized it was a smart strategy, but maybe not so smart letter timing. :)

check out my new thread.

This is all I'm saying. It's time to look toward the future. There is much to be happy about. And contrary to the beliefs on many on this forum the world isn't going to implode anytime soon. Sure we're looking at some tough times ahead but we'll all still be here and we'll all still be fighting. And look on the bright side of things. The more the Republicans and the Democrats fuck up the more appealing Ron Paul's platform of less government is. And even if by the time that happens Ron Paul might be gone we still have Rand Paul to look forward to and we still have all the people who have pledged a congressional run in the future on Ron Paul's platform.

Don't worry folks. There is plenty of places to go for this movement even after Ron Paul loses the nomination.

Exactly. All of us need to run for office. Then we win. When we take over the GOP. Next presidential election, we pick a guy, and we win easy!

Don't wait til 2012

I can say from a few years of experience that most often where people can make the largest difference is at the local level.

If you want to make a change jump in and go for a city council seat or a local commission and vote on principle, make friends, and influence the political climate of your community.

Think of what a difference you could make to the next generation as a school board member.

Water boards and planning commissions are notorious for abusing imminent domain.

Police commissions, Fire Boards, Grand Juries, you name it: They are all the front lines. Participating in these as a Ron Paul conservative, you will:

Protect your local community from the tyranny of bad government.

Work within a geographic region where you have the strongest influence and are not watered down.

Get into positions where you can help appoint the best people for the job on the local commissions that are writing the laws and running the show.

Build a reputation with the others working locally within the political scheme and attract support so that when you make that 2012 bid, you have a verifiable resume of hard, honest work.

You have support; you have friends; they know grass roots. Work it baby!
