Hallucinogens are not just about seeing bright shiny colors moving around, many believe it helps open a spiritual gateway. Jordan Maxwell had a great discussion on this in one of his lectures.
I don't claim that shrooms open a spiritual gateway, however I have had what I perceived to be many spiritual experiences that were directly caused by the trip.
It is said that the body has 7 shakra points, and so does the earth. Both of these are based on the vibration of the earth. If mushrooms can alter your bodily vibrations in such a way that allows more access to your spiritual shakra located on the top of your head, then perhaps there is some science behind spirituality after all. I wouldn't know where to begin to prove or disprove any of these things, but it's fun to think about.

I guess the point is that once you learn that you are not able to perceive all of reality, it is really difficult to claim exactly what reality is.

Well, Kade, there would be the distinction between heathens and pagans for starters, the former being believers in personified gods, the latter being pantheists.
What I'm getting at is that the concepts are pretty old and did not show any tendency to just fade away so far.
Concerning the soul, the primitive Plotinus derived from the process of erection that the soul must be somehow related to the chemicals in your blood. Have we gone any farther since? No. The truth is that we don't understand a lot of things in the classic writings because we lack culture. Plotinus explicitly states that the soul would have the form of a physical law governing the matter of your body. Now compare that with the people who monitor electric activity in the brain. By God, it's the same thing and we have not made an inch of progress in so far the nature of the phenomenon of consciousness is concerned.
If you monitor your erection or your brain activity, you see, it makes no difference.

Consciousness is an interesting topic indeed, also- how did carbon self-animate - create software code genomes? How did we develop written languages? Institutional memory? How did we develop the knowledge to leave this planet?
Is it possible for apes to eventually develop these characteristics too? Are the switches laden in their genome?
Are we a fluke? Or designed for a purpose?
Like douglas adam suggest, we are just part of a big organic computer that is to one day spit out the meaning to "Life, the universe, and everything"

I know I should've stated that what I meant with that claim was exactly this consciousness stuff that you are talking about. If there is somekind of a spiritual realm, if there is telepathic abilities.
What I'm talking about is kind of condensed in the end of Esoteric Agenda. Jordan Maxwell also talks about that "divine force in the universe which men have called god". So far we know so little to make any final judgements.

Well since then we have found out the 7 shakra points on earth and found that they can be calculated mathematically based on the poles and the frequency of the earth. So heck, I figure maybe there is something to this. MAYBE. Checkout Esoteric Agenda. They get into this stuff. Have you seen "The Ether" yet? LSD can sometimes give you this feeling that you've got everything figured out. I mean everything. Some people say that this is "connecting" with the rest of the universe all at once, but I don't know. Some people have said that DMT is the hallucinogen that does this the best, but I have never tried it. People either say that you are connecting with god or the universe or "the other side" or whatever. I'm curious about what DMT is all about.
