Well, Kade, there would be the distinction between heathens and pagans for starters, the former being believers in personified gods, the latter being pantheists.

Concerning the soul, the primitive Plotinus derived from the process of erection that the soul must be somehow related to the chemicals in your blood. Have we gone any farther since? No. The truth is that we don't understand a lot of things in the classic writings because we lack culture. Plotinus explicitly states that the soul would have the form of a physical law governing the matter of your body. Now compare that with the people who monitor electric activity in the brain. By God, it's the same thing and we have not made an inch of progress in so far the nature of the phenomenon of consciousness is concerned.
If you monitor your erection or your brain activity, you see, it makes no difference.
So, stop discounting the primitives. You are not cultivated, you only think so.
