I think you can get that effect from using a digital camera and moving it around while focused on a fixed light source. They recreated it on UFO Hunters, though the color spectrum was not the same as the one being filmed.

I am sorry you are offended by terms in common use.
Let me rephrase,
It is very poor photography, amateurish, and unrecognizable.
I could take better pictures with a cheap disposable camera while on a good drunk.

They show nothing but squiggly lights from a shaky hand, and "prove" nothing.
