Israel bombs & kills Catholic Church in Gaza

DEIR AL-BALAH, Gaza Strip (AP) — An Israeli shell slammed into the compound of the only Catholic church in the Gaza Strip on Thursday, killing three people and wounding 10 others, including the parish priest, according to church officials. The late Pope Francis, who died in April, had regularly spoken to the priest about the situation in the war-ravaged territory.

The shelling of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Gaza also damaged the church compound, where hundreds of Palestinians have been sheltering from the 21-month Israel-Hamas war. Israel issued a rare apology and said it was investigating.

Pope Leo XIV on Thursday renewed his call for an immediate ceasefire in response to the attack.

The Jewish State of Izrael hates Christians and hates Christ.

From spitting on Christians to "Price Tag" attacks which specifically attack Christian sites, from desecration to arson.

They have literally targeted and attacked every Church in "Gaza".

➤ Saint Porphyrius Greek Orthodox Church – one of the oldest churches in the world, struck on October 19, 2023.

➤ Holy Family Catholic Church (Latin Parish of Gaza) – targeted on December 16, 2023.

➤ Latin Monastery Church (Deir al-Latin) – bombed in July 2025 by Israeli forces in the Old City of Gaza.

In one of the attacks, they killed Justin Amash's family.

"I was really worried about this. 😔 With great sadness, I have now confirmed that several of my relatives (including Viola and Yara pictured here) were killed at Saint Porphyrius Orthodox Church in Gaza, where they had been sheltering, when part of the complex was destroyed as the result of an Israeli airstrike.

Give rest, O Lord, to their souls, and may their memories be eternal.

The Palestinian Christian community has endured so much.

Our family is hurting badly.

May God watch over all Christians in Gaza—and all Israelis and Palestinians who are suffering, whatever their religion or creed."

fyi.
as much as I deplore and would say they deserve more than they will get, it was either unintentional or unauthorized.

the church is mere feet away from a compound which had been hit once before because they take in anyone (yes, Hamas)
it was almost surely not intentional, or if it was, by some bigoted IDF troop, it was unauthorized for sure.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed regret after Israeli tank fire killed three people at a Catholic church in Gaza today, blaming a “stray” round for the deaths after a phone call with United States President Donald Trump.

President Donald Trump personally called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday morning to express his dissatisfaction with an Israeli military strike that hit the Holy Family Catholic Church in Gaza, killing three civilians and injuring ten others. The church had been serving as a shelter for displaced residents.

“It was not a positive reaction,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters. “He called Prime Minister Netanyahu this morning to address the strikes on that church in Gaza.” According to Leavitt, Netanyahu acknowledged to Trump that the attack was a mistake and agreed to publicly state as much."

While the Israel Defense Forces said they were investigating the incident, the spokesperson for the Israeli Foreign Ministry, Oren Marmorstein, expressed his country’s “deep regret over the damage to the Holy Family Church in Gaza City and over any civilian casualties.”

He added that the circumstances of the incident remain unclear and that the results of the investigation would be published transparently.

The Holy Family Church is considered the last Christian refuge in Gaza, where dozens of families have been sheltering since the outbreak of the war in October 2023. The church also suffered partial damage in July 2024, when its surroundings were shelled, an incident that at the time drew condemnation from church leaders in the Holy Land.

Well, now that the very last refuge has been completely obliterated, I'm sure all of the Trump-Humpers will accept both Trump's and Netanyahu's sincerest apology for that little mistake.

Very last refuge: At least it won't happen again?
