This is the last and final great depression.

Somebody rightly said "if there is world war III there will be no world war IV.

I think it was Einstein that said "I don't know what weapons will be used in WW3, but WW4 will be with sticks and stones".

They also said that The Great War was going to end all wars. But there it was, WWII giving them the finger.

Graham Turner, from GFC Economics, fears the Dow could crash to 4,000 by summer unless there is a "quantum reduction" in mortgage rates. The Fed should swoop in to the market – armed with Ben Bernanke's "printing press" – and mop up enough Treasuries to force 10-year yields down to 1pc and mortgage rates to 2.5pc. Monetary shock and awe.

I would not get too short this market.

If the above did happen , this mkt would jump 1000pts in 1 hour or less.

I would not put this pass the FED .

They are running out of bullets .

What would gold do ?

If you both shorted the market and the dollar, you would come out way ahead. A move like that would cause every nation on Earth to dump their dollars, and we'd be adrift in a sea of paper overnight.

We've had several "great" depressions. Is this one? Yes. Will this be the worst? Most likely.

1) Have noticed several large corporations downsizing their customer service departments.
One company took 35 minutes to answer their telephone. The fellow who answered was polite and professional, but he sounded very tired.

2) People at church are asking if my company is hiring, an ask me to be a referance... so it looks like you almost need to know someone to get a job.

3)I'm hearing more & more stories of families (who had left their parents years ago) that are moving back in with with relitives

4)The evictions in our local rental properties are increaseing by a large number.

I define a depression as an inversion of GDP. When the GDP growth actually sinks under 0, not simply cuts back 2 or 3 percent. According to the official estimates we are in a recession which is a scaling back, not an inversion.

As far as I see it we are not in a depression.

But we are damn close.

Then again I've lived a depression lifestyle all my life. It doesn't matter if the stocks blow up, my family owns none and our mortgage payment is $200 on a 2-bedroom 1970s mobile home. Our bathtub has rotted out and the only thing that works is the shower. I see no significant change in lifestyle due to the "collapse" and likely will not. In fact I may see an improvement due to firesales and garage sales, and people getting rid of high-end equipment for insanely cheap prices.

They will come up with some catchy name to refer to it. They'll probably call it the Great Bush Depression.
