Is there something wrong with this picture?

When you realize that your living standard is supported by the exploitation of others, does it really matter that CEO's simply get more ill gotten gains than you?

always dig into a document and look for yourself:

Compared with other countries in the world the gap between CEO pay rates and the minimum wage in the U.S. is obviously the largest.

we could logically conclude that other countries could also have significantly higher minimum wages, which is a bad thing.

I'd be more interesting to see the ratio if all the countries involved had zero minimum wages.

Seriously. There is no "acceptable ratio". What in heck are you guys talking about? It's none of government's business to set a ratio of CEO pay to other employee pay. It's up to the Board of Directors and the stockholders. If you believe a CEO is getting paid too much, then do not invest in that company, do not work there, and do not buy it's products. Picket the hell out of it, if you must. But, don't for one minute start thinking that it is in ANY way whatsoever government's business to intercede. Or, maybe you can point me to where such power resides in the Constitution?

You guys know better than this.

Please quote the member who said the government should determine pay ratios.

First, the data probably isn't very good. The author of the paper is clearly trying to prove his point. Why does he use 2004 data in one place then 2001 in another? I don't care to spend the time, but I'm sure the real differences among countries aren't so drastic.

Is it really useful to focus on CEO pay? Wouldn't it make more sense to focus on the salary of the common folk? If the common folk moved from the US to any of the other countries listed is their pay going to shoot up? I think not.

Next Mexican you run into who came to the US to work, try telling him he would have been much better off in Mexico because the CEO to work pay ratio is much lower.
