Is Rubio a winner for his bronze?

Rubio comes in a close 3rd but the media is calling this a win. I don't much care for him so I wasn't following, were his poll numbers that bad? The way I heard it, the poor Iowa weather favored the establishment candidates (such as Rubio) and though I don't support Cruz, I don't count him as establishment. So Cruz and Trump are fighting for the non establishment vote and beat each other up in Iowa (though they take 52% of the state). So unless this is just spin, what am i missing?

The media likes Rubio more than it does Cruz, they'd probably prefer to have Rubio and Trump duke it out for the GOP nod since they are both guaranteed losers in the general election. Rubio was polling pretty far behind Cruz and Trump and probably outperformed by about 10% based on polling. Some of this may have been due to Huckabee and Santorum's people coalescing behind Rubio, or more likely, people who were actually peeved at Cruz over his shenanigans this past week went to Rubio.

To be clear, this is all about perception. Cruz is not more anti-establishment than Trump or Rubio, but this is the narrative at present.

Rubio is going to be the phoenix rising. Clear the way for Rubio.

He almost got Trump. I admit in the end I was kind of pulling for him to knock Trump down to 3rd.

He polled a lot worse than Trump in Florida, his home state. He will be the GOP Establishment new darling boy going forward as he was the least smelly of Christie, Bush and K guy. Of all those the water boy is going to quarterback. Expect the enemedia have him on tv 24/7 as they choose Presidents not the electorate.

He came in third, but that puts him at #1 in terms of the establishment candidates, which is victory enough for him. If he can finish ahead of Kasich in New Hampshire, then he becomes the standard bearer for the establishment the rest of the way. Not sure how much good that does him in a year when almost 70% of the vote is going anti-establishment, but it does mean he will get PAID once the race is over (remember, he is resigning his Senate seat to become a Washington Lobbyist if the Presidential nomination thing doesn't work out).

[Rubio]...probably outperformed by about 10% based on polling.

Then that's fair reason for him to celebrate. I will say again that it was known the poor weather would tip to the establishment people, but 10% bump is a lot.
Rubio was always projected to be 3rd right?

is this true? Why would he do this? Doesn't he like showing up on the senate floor day after day and voting for his.....wait a minute.

He beat expectations. If you have been watching the msm the last few weeks, they have been pushing Rubio very hard. Expect it to continue. They want him to win the primary so that he can go up against Hillary. Of course, he will lose that race.

Rubio the GOP Obama has always been their guy since 2013; he fucked it up early with the SOTU response (BTW, these are always done by people the party wants to run for POTUS) and Gang of 8 bill, which people have mostly forgot about by now.

Yup. Tune in the narrative. The establishment gets their guy.

I spoke to a friend who's republican and she said, "Ooooh, he's such a good speaker. I like Rubio."

I told her, I watched him come up from nothing in FL, he made a shit ton of promises and delivered pretty much nothing.

I'm not surprised he is not polling well in FL, he made tons of promises and a lots and lots of noise when he was a local guy in FL. He got voted in and just turned into a shill. Like the nerdy guy turns popular and then forgets the nerds who supported him. But people will forget that in FL when the MSM begins pumping him and making him their GOP guy and FL republicans will vote with their pride, "That's our boy!!" and he can probably take FL.

Yes, but a far more distant third than what he got. Rubio almost tied Trump, whereas in most of the polling Trump and Cruz were in a statistical tie for 1st with Rubio behind them by over 10 points. He beat expectations by a fair bit, and for some reason he seemed to have a disproportionate amount of success with younger voters, which is odd.

No offense, but your friend is a complete ditz, and probably likes Rubio because he's a pretty boy who looks the closest to a teen idol of anyone running. When someone complements an empty suit on his speaking abilities, this is what I always refer them to:

If Rubio comes in third again in New Hampshire, then I'd say he will be favored to win the nomination. From that moment on he will be the undisputed establishment anointee with all the advantages that go with that. It will take longer for him to wrap it all up than any other GOP race I can remember. But he'll probably eventually do it.

Oh, great ... first it was terrorism, and now this ... goddam "climate change" ...

I thought climate change kept democrats home and weather kept republicans home. Now I'm confused because that was the only way I could tell them apart.

He is that right now. He is the establishment GOP pick. Ultimately, they want Hillary to win.

This is a win for Rubio . . . kicking Tromped down to 3rd and teen% with the Marco wins in major media markets of Polk, Story and Johnson Counties
and the 26% tie in Blackhawk County with Canadian bacon Cruz
