Is Romney planning an independent run?

A friend of mine just suggested that maybe perhaps the reason that Romney's campaign is "supsended" and not "out" is that he is in fact putting things on hold to later announce an independent run ... depending on how/if the GOP rallies around McCain in these last few states.

This sounds like a real possibility. Any thoughts?

It's always a possibility, but Romney said that he was suspending his campaign in order to let McCain win so that they (the GOP) can start a general election race early, to have a better chance against Hillary/Obama.

the numbers show that if it's obama vs. mccain, obama will sweep the south and everywhere else except for the mountain west states. so he's planning for 2012

I hope not...McCain vs. Shillary would be pro-war only. RP could run independent and win with the 75% anti-war vote. We'd have the Obama folks helping out hopefully.

Even Romney can't afford to run outside the GOP. Hes up to something.

Yup, he's trying to look good for the future. He knows McCain (and himself) have no chance this round, but when people see how bad it is under Obama and/or Hillary, they'd come running back to the party and he could win then.

very interesting angle to look at it..

Hillary vs. McCain vs. Paul would be stellar.. the Paul+Obama camps could defeat them both with ease!

If McCain does end up getting the magic number of delegates thats exactly what we need to hope for. Alot of Obama supporters like Paul.

Uh, most Hillary supporters (and a good portion of that anti-war vote), think she IS anti-war. You're kidding yourself.
