Is Rand Ashamed for Endorsing Romney?

Honestly.

Why is this so difficult?

I still have a hard time swallowing the fact that he didn't just say:

"I endorse my father for president, period."

Never would have to bother about Gruber-Gate.

Pragmatically I think he didn't do this for obvious reasons. Maybe he should have anyway. But its not hard to see why he didn't. It does fit with what Rand's strategy has been the entire time, for better or worse.

Ron Paul endorsed Don Young in 2008, one of the most corrupt embarrassments in Congress. Endorsements are made for lots of reasons.

Endorsing Romney has opened a lot of doors for Rand. He has met with Romney's fundraising team multiple times and through that other big donors. The little bit of grief he has gotten for the endorsement was well worth it.

The majority of Limbaugh and Hannity listeners have no idea that Romney hired Gruber for his healthcare plan. They have no idea how idiotic they themselves are for supporting Romney.

The OP is right, he ought to be.

On moral principle? Sure. I didn't support Romney. Heck, I actually marginally preferred Obama (for the same reason Walter Block did, marginally less insane on foreign policy.)

But really, you can't be 100% principled in politics. I think its something to strive for, but you can't do it. If Rand Paul could avoid making any mistakes whatsoever when it came to his own votes and the positions he himself stood for, I'd be incredibly thrilled, and more than willing enough to forgive him for endorsing other people that don't exactly support liberty.

Its more annoying to me when Rand himself takes stances that are inconsistent with liberty. Thing is, though, that's how he's going to win if he does it. I wouldn't blame anyone for a decision not to support Rand, though that's not the path I intend to take. But, it shouldn't really surprise us at this point.

not saying much, but Romney was probably the best Republican candidate since Reagan. surely better than W or McCain.
