They've been deliberately dumbing us down for fifty years. What makes you think they don't like stupidity?

Not that they don't punish stupidity. They charge a pretty penny for the honor of being stupid.

I am now curious as to what the conversation (such as it is) was about.

and NO it is not OK for the state to limit anything.. The state is supposed to be limited.

Eh, even erudite men and the well read make these mistakes. I've noticed PhD scholars make a mistake like this about once every year or so. That's why there are erasers on pencils.

I'm guessing the origin of the term goes way back. It's probably why so many people make mistakes on things that might look a little odd, at least on the surface. If you consider that the White House has a Chief of Staff, then Commander and Chief might not sound so far-fetched. It certainly sounds no more ridiculous than a term like Drug Czar.

All of this really begs the question of why the DU member and trolling OP would come here to ask such a question. This outrageously boorish behavior demonstrated in that Facebook post is perhaps best addressed by his feminist and metrosexual colleagues at the forum known for advocating rules addressing these delicate sensibilities.

Or maybe it wasn't the 'Commander in Chief' thing but the 'license to kill' bit.

Of course, Obama doesn't need a panel of metrosexuals to deal with that. If the guy makes a nuisance of himself, Obama has all the drones he could ever need. Hell, the USDA will soon be well enough armed to conquer Nicaragua...

It's hard to say what the guy meant by that statement, without knowing the context of the posting. Because the truth is, Obama does have a "license to kill", thanks to Pres Bush executive order allowing the president to kill US citizens that the president has decided are terrorists. Now if the guy actually supports this, and wasn't just stating it as a truthful matter....well that is sad, but thankfully we all have the right to freedom of speech under the US constitution. And its impossible to outlaw stupidity on any level, people will always think what they want to think, regardless of how irrational.
