Is it immoral to hire a most likely illegal Mexican immigrant to do the yard work or house cleaning for cheap if they want to do it and are happy with the wages you pay them?

Thoughts?

Nah, neighborhood kids use to do those sorts of things. But now they are too f-ing lazy.

Not really immoral, but it won't help your local economy as much as it would have if you had hired a legal person

Of course not. You're getting a good deal for your money, and somebody who is down on his luck is getting a leg up and an opportunity to advance his situation. Believe me, that migrant laborer wants the job as badly as you want to give it to him.

It would only be immoral if you forced him to work for you, or if he forced you to hire him, for wages other than those you would otherwise be mutually comfortable with. If you're worried that you'd be exploiting him, you can always pay him more, or do as Vegaspilot said and throw in a six-pack! ;-)

i can't think why it would be immoral. why should the government decide who can come to this country and not? everyone should be able to receive whomever they want in their property.

Can you explain?

I can't say anything that will make you reconsider your position, if that's what you're looking for.

I've explained my position in illegal immigration in several other threads and I'm not going to start all over again.

OK maybe I will. Morality is defined as "morality means a code of conduct or a set of beliefs distinguishing between right and wrong behaviors. "

If I believe that it is wrong for people to come here illegally, no matter their motivations, then I believe it is wrong to hire them, especially if their motivation is specifically to get hired for below legal wages, avoid paying taxes that the rest of have to pay...yada yada yada.

If you keep feeding stray dogs, they will undoubtedly continue to hang around, not to mention crap in your neighbors yard.

Illegal vs legal has never been an issue with me.

I have a problem with welfare.

Can we trade the american dolists for working mexicans?

Send all welfare recipients to Mexico or some other equally undesireable place regardless of their place of birth.

Welcome all workers to the USA regardless of their place of birth.

Get rid of regulations that make it hard for people to get work.

Make sure Unemployment benefits never exceed minimum wage, or if minimum wage is abolished, make sure unemployment can never be extended.

I don't think something is moral or immoral based on whether the government approves of it.

You get more of whatever you subsidize.

The form of the question makes it unanswerable.

1. Is it immoral to pay an illegal immigrant in exchange for a service?
2. Is it immoral to pay a human in exchange for a service?
3. What is the difference between an illegal immigrant and a human?

The fact they're from Mexico and the fact they're doing yard work is irrelevant (I know you were just using as an example but the fundamental question does not involve these attributes)

Once you answer those three questions, your OP will be answered.

Is it moral to pay for services to someone who will submit some of that money to the tyrannical police state?

What is immoral about that situation is the World Bank shenanigans that destroy hard-working people's home countries so that they are forced to take on low-paying, low-skill jobs in a country that is not their own.
