Is it even possible to be ethical in the financial sector?

I've found all this recent economic stuff very interesting and have been thinking about getting into a finance career. But is it even possible for someone of the Austrian school to get along in this field? If you work for some big firm then are you inherently participating in something evil? Obviously we can't all work for Euro Pacific. So how else could you use a knowledge of Austrian economics to succeed in the world of business/finance? I'm aware that the economy is collapsing and that there might not even be any financial jobs to speak of in the future, but hypothetically speaking. Thoughts?

Congratulations and welcome!

Yes it is possible to be ethical in the financial sector... but you must admit that you have the mental decease of being Sociopath! Just call it SOP for the money manipulators and an excuse to live with themselves each day.

People will ALWAYS be looking for ways to PRESERVE and INCREASE the value of their savings.

The PROBLEM is that the industry is heavily "regulated" -- and thus the Feds end up forcing nearly everyone to participate in the "evils" of fiat currency.

But if you can figure out a way to preserve wealth that is somehow legally "outside" of the jurisdiction of the [current] financial regulation boxes -- AND you keep the operation fairly "small" (hence not worth the bother of "raping" by the Feds with revised legislation/regulation) then there is the possibility that you could run an ethical business.

I myself have thought that running a 100% reserve bank would be a wonderful thing to contemplate -- and it CAN be done as a "micro-finance" thing (see VirginMoney) -- but sadly, because of legal-tender laws, everything is of necessity and legal tender laws still required to be in the fiat FRN designations, and hence is still vulnerable to hyperinflation (which is the chief peril in today's monetary system).

This sounds strangely familiar.

It depends on how greedy you are. Those who make the most money are usually the ones who bend the rules the most and have the fewest ethical limitations.
