Iowa - Man sentenced to 15 years in prison for burning LGBT flag

I don't think it is cool to destroy/steal someone's property. 15 years seems like a pretty hard sentence unless he is a repeat offender. If I were I judge I would want to be on the side of the property owner.

I do believe labeling a crime a hate crime is causing some uppity stuff like the Jessie Smollet stunt. It's all show biz...

Iowa man who burned LGBTQ flag sentenced to 16 years

An Iowa man who was found guilty of lighting a local church’s LGBTQ flag on fire was sentenced to more than 16 years in prison Wednesday.
Adolfo Martinez, 30, was found guilty last month of a hate crime, third-degree harassment and reckless use of fire after admitting to police in June that he stole a pride banner hanging outside the Ames United Church of Christ and set it on fire using lighter fluid about two blocks away outside the Dangerous Curves Gentleman’s Club, The Des Moines Register reported.
Story County Attorney Jessica Reynolds said in June that the hate crime charge was added because Mr. Martinez targeted the church’s property because of “what it represents as far as sexual orientation.”

Mr. Martinez was sentenced to 15 years for the hate crime charge, one year for reckless use of fire and 30 days for harassment, all of which will be served consecutively, the Associated Press reported.

Nothing at all about theft or destruction of private property...which I would not have a problem with convicting of that.

Clearly and admittedly he stole and destroyed about $20 worth of private property.

Make him pay for the fagg flag and do some community service.

15 years in the state pen is a message:

The sodomites are a protected class, do not raise your finger or your voice against them in any way, or doom on you.

This. All this. 15 fucking years. SMDH.

He was found guilty last month of hate crime harassment, reckless use of fire and being a habitual offender.

......He also threatened to burn down the bar.
The truth of what happened is being concealed here, and we're left with enough breadcrumbs to figure it out.
People who run legal systems by and large tend to know what is going to get them frog-marched to the edge of a shallow ditch. They're not going to give someone 15 years for burning a fagggot flag.

But they *might* give someone 15 years for being a repeat offender, especially if the past offenses were violent, and for threatening to commit arson.

"But 12 people that I don't know, who have no investment in me or this congregation, said this man committed a crime, and it was a crime borne of bigotry and hatred."

And the only narrative we have is from the fagggot (I'm really only using that term because the site doesn't want me to, btw) and from the county attorney who obviously has an axe to grind.

We will never know what those 12 jurors were told. We will never know what the selection process focused on. We will never know what the actual charges were.
All we are allowed to know is what the activists are telling us.

Martinez is obviously a piece of shit. The activists know what they're doing - they chose a case where there has GOT to be other stuff going on besides the hate crime, getting him a long prison stint, and pretending like burning a flag is the root cause. I don't believe it is.

What I *do* believe is that these snakes actually got a bunch of self-described libertarians to at least partially defend an obvious garbage human.

You're all being played, and opening the door for them to push toward the day when they DO give 15 years for burning a flag.

Republicans seem to like being played as much as they like totalitarianism. If the totalitarianism doesn't go their way, that seems to suit them too, as the thing they hate most is having nothing to bitch about.

Yeah, he very well may be...could very well be an illegal, which opens a whole new deck of SJW crazy cards.

But obviously, he was sentenced in large degree on the fact that he accosted the symbol of an ultra protected class. A class that, due to nothing

The senior minister at the United Church of Christ, Rev. Eileen Gebbie - who is gay, said "It doesn't feel good. However, it's not going to slow us down. We won't change."
She told the Des Moines Register that she's happy Martinez was found guilty, though she told NBC that 16 years was excessive.
"I often experienced Ames as not being as progressive as many people believe it is, and there still is a very large closeted ***** community here," Gebbie explained. "But 12 people that I don't know, who have no investment in me or this congregation, said this man committed a crime, and it was crime born of bigotry and hatred."
"Hate crimes against the LGBTQ community are a serious matter as they inflict distinct emotional harms on their victims, and strike fear into the communities they target," Reyes told NBC News. "That said, true justice should always strive to be about rehabilitation, reconciliation, and healing communities. It is difficult to see how a 16-year prison sentence accomplishes any of those goals."

According to NBC News, the director of gay advocacy group One Iowa, Courtney Reyes, thinks that the sentence is excessive, and says that while her organization appreciates how quickly the incident was handled, the sentence was excessive.

If they wont change then they will lose audiences and will get woke and broke.
You can count on it.

Rehabilitation, reconciliation sounds a lot like brainwashing and reeducation.

Right and right.

But even they admit the sentence was excessive.

What were they expecting? they are a leftist protected class, whats the next thing they will try to normalize? pedophile? Greek's the return of Pederasty as a normal thing?

As a child i lived in difficult times and once i had lived in a church thankfully not in a united church. Churches and houses of worship should be a place where anyone no matter the religion can come and enjoy praying to their gods not be pushing this sexual thing.
