Iowa - Help me calling Republican Delegates

This is from another thread but it seems relevant:

This is really a great idea! And if people do not want to use up their phone minutes or make long distance calls, you can use Yahoo Messenger to make phone calls for 1 cent per minute ($10 = 16.5 Hours!), all you need is a headset with a microphone and a decent (some sort of broadband) internet connection.

You can also use Skype VoIP (Skypeout) for $29.95 a year, unlimited long distance.

Of course when you use these VoIP internet services the caller ID shows "no number" or "unavailable" which causes some folks to let the answering machine or voicemail take the call.

I was wondering if you'd find tapping into the Iowa Ron Paul 2008 Meetup groups helpful in getting willing callers.

As I posted in another thread: (http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?t=3495), I would expect state delegates to be more receptive to a call from another Iowa voter, rather than from an out-of-stater, so that's why I'm suggesting this.

You may have this info already, but as an FYI, here are some links to the Iowa Meetup groups that I found:

When the Iraqi question comes up, I always say "Dr. Paul proposed going directly after the terrorists responsible with Letters of Marque and Reprisal rather than indiscriminately bombing civilian populations."

That usually changes the tone of the discussion.

Here is my 2 cents.

I'm not certain most voters even understand what "Letters of Marque and Reprisal" are, so unless you are comfortable clearly defining what that means over the phone I wouldn't use it.

I would simply state that Dr. Paul authorized force for Afghanistan and Osama Bin Ladin, but he became frustrated by the unconstitutional efforts to redirect the war to Iraq, i.e. without declaring via Congress.

With that comment move quickly to the BIGGER issue - which is that Dr. Paul believes the war in Iraq is a symptom of a larger problem - we've overextended ourselves with a faulty foreign policy, specifically in the Middle East. These bad policies have not only hurt our reputation around the world, they also foster new enemies while at the same time preventing us from focusing on more pressing domestic issues such as immigration and healthcare.

Finally, Dr. Paul believes that taking border agents from our own Mexican borders and using them to control borders in Iraq is detrimental to our national security. In his own words - "How can we have a serious conversation about national security when our own back door is unlocked?"

That in a nutshell would be my outline of Dr. Paul's foreign policy views for those still pro-Iraq.

Letters of Marque and Reprisal is a polite way of saying we put a bounty on their heads.

yeah I know what it means and think its great. I'm just not sure the folks getting called would know unless you came out and said "Dr. Paul thinks the best way to go after those responsible for 9/11 is to put a bounty on their heads and send in assassins. In fact he proposed legislation for just such a thing, which is entirely constitutional btw. Its called 'letters of marque and reprisal'. "

Israel essentially did this after the Munich Olympics fiasco. Took some heat for it when they got the wrong guy one time. Would be interesting to see the reaction if we did something similar.

Just found this thread and am wondering... how did the delegate-calling effort go? How many delegates are there in Iowa and how many did the Austin meetup group manage to call? I am in Austin, too, but haven't made it to the meetups yet. Hopefully soon!

Still an active project currently about to expand to the registered voters in Iowa. Please contact Jason to help!

I'm up for 10. Private Message me. I'll talk politics to the Iowans!!

Also, someone should consolidate all of the issues into a call sheet that can be used with the basic script. So as delegates jump to issues, we can easily remind ourselves what Ron Paul supports.

Not that we don't already know Ron's positions, but sometimes in discussion, you can easily be taken down a rabbit trail and forget exactly what the main issue of discussion is. While speaking on the phone, you can have your finger right on the issue, and go through the positions, bring the delegate right back to the issue and off the rabbit trail.

Just a thought...I'm going to personally put one of these together if you need me to call...

They are loading, if I remember right, 1.8 million Iowa voters in a program 500,000 at a time for callers to use (or maybe that was just the independents). We need everyone to take part!

Jason Stoddard of the Austin MeetUp group (and former Ron Paul Congressional intern) is training people to make calls to Iowa registered voters (1.6 million). They are starting with the 2006 Iowan Republican delegates list. Initial evaluation is that almost no one called had heard of Dr. Paul or was familiar with his views (and these are politically aware people) but that a good number are not only receptive but very supportive when they learn about him!

To help, contact Jason at [email protected] or 512.925.0921. This should be what all of us are doing to complement the big Iowa rally, the DVD project, news of "unfairness" to him, etc., and create a nice buzz.

do you still need help calling? give me 5 names to start with. I'll try, but I've never done this stuff either.

Laura

please send me one of your sheets...it's a great idea, and I'm a novice. I've never been for a candidate before Ron Paul, but I want to help in every way I can.

Laura

Thanks for all the help people. Round 2 of the calling Iowa campaign has begun. Please see this thread on how you can help:
http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?t=5538

BTW - Jason Stoddard and Chuck Young are freaking true Patriots - these guys are taking on massive projects all geared towards winning the early primaries. Help these guys out and become a Patriot yourself.

Coontact [email protected] IF YOU WANT SOME ACTION THAT WILL RFEALLY HELP RP WIN THE AUGUST 11TH STRAWVOTE.

Our meetup group in Nashville is willing to help! I emailed the above list today and someone else emailed them a week ago (I think) but no response yet. (I can understand why my email hasn't yet been answered because it was just posted). Anyway we've got 6 definite callers so far but I think I can REALLY push this and get 50 or even 100 callers if I can actually get ahold of a list of numbers and a script.

Our meetup group is: http://ronpaul.meetup.com/69/ We're 176 members and growing every day!

Regards,

John M. Drake
