Any input would be appreciated, particularly if it's *not* just my computer!

Is anyone else noticing major slowdowns on the Internet?

It could be just my computer, but it definitely seems like Yahoo is having problems (both my paid accounts were failing, likely on different servers-seem to be working again).

Since the Iranian Oil Bourse posts included a link that monitors Internet traffic, I just checked it for North America:
http://www.internettrafficreport.com/namerica.htm

It indicates a 100% packet loss for Florida and Phoenix!

Both RonPaulForums and DailyPaul are extremely slow to refresh, but I'm noticing slowdowns on my broadband access for several sites, including msn.com, aol.com, yahoo.com.

I'm talking 20-30 seconds before the sites *do* seem to come up, but the pictures/ads still display slowly, as well.

Mines been slow too.

around 1/20 times I transfer pages it will totally freeze, and half of the rest of the time it will be pretty slow.

That's why I posted

I wonder if someone is cutting *our* cables!

I'm in the Chicago market.

I really won't stay online much longer, if it continues this slow.

It's like going back to dial-up from broadband!

A "yes" or "no" reply would have been nice

I may have missed it the first time, but Wisconsin is also at a 100% packet loss. That might be impacting the Chicago area.

Cincinnati and Missouri are also showing slow response times.

Take this for what it's worth...but a major winter storm moved through and I know persons in MO who said extreme ICE build up has damaged some of their internet infrastructure, and he's fallen back to dial up access for the time being......

Then again.....there's an awful lotta 'cutting' going on with them there internets lately it seems.

Oh and PS, I'm in Chicago market and use a broadband provider, so far anything I've gone to has been OK. A few pages not loading the first time, but otherwise seems average for primetime evening surfing.

I'm at work in St. Louis, MO in *#(*$% Communications National Network Operations Center. We're all green here cept for Cape Giraldo, MO. They had a major ice storm and power outages.

No latency or major outages to report.

Here's a prime example

I sent out an e-mail with an attachment and BCC'd myself at 5:04.

The recipient called at 5:50 to indicate non-receipt.

I *just* received the BCC to myself at 10, almost 5 hours later?

I'm in Southern California, and my internet has been a lot slower for the past 3 days... :(

Primetime evening surfing

A few pages not loading the first time, but otherwise seems average for primetime evening surfing.

I refer to it as "Internet rush hour"!

However, it usually seems to be slow *e-mail*, not slow site access across the board.

Do some traceroutes and see where the latency is. It's either your ISP or one of the carriers they use.

On an RP note:)

Several news articles about Yahoo possibly working with News Corp to fend off Microsoft.

I initially thought it was RP supporters "convincing" Yahoo that that was not a good idea!

Yeah, sometimes when I go to certain websites it just lags out and gives me that 404 error. I noticed it a lot in my online gaming yesterday

Talked with my ISP/WOW

Well, I just spent 35 minutes on the phone.

Interesting information:

1. He indicated that Yahoo servers were down earlier today. He was in Texas and he's seeing various issues. He leaves his Yahoo Messenger up in the background and routinely gets logged off (that could be an intentional time-out by Yahoo, though).
2. He had me test my speed at http://www.2wire.com (the Speed Meter button in the upper right hand corner.
3. Two tries, 3.79 and 3.81 Mbps. He said that's about half speed.
4. From what he could monitor of my connection, apparently there is some packet loss.
5. He also mentioned about domain constantly resetting (I think) as a possibility with the router/cable modem situation.

Possibilities:
1. Ethernet cable wire issue, either one of my two.
2. I have a Linksys router and their cable modem. The older Linksys routers apparently have a firmware upgrade, but he didn't think mine needed it.
3. He mentioned clearing out Prefetch and Temp files, etc., which I will do.
4. We discussed *spyware* checking (vs. virus).

Since I have been on my home computer *much more* (plus using YouTube a lot more!), it could be just lots of garbage on my hard drive. I think I've run out of RAM a couple of times (first clue - mouse just *stops* until I reboot).

He has someone scheduled to come out IN A WEEK to check their/my cable modem:( I'll go crazy, if things stay this slow for that long!

Ain't technology grand?
