Instead of Raises, McDonald's Tells Workers to Sign Up for Food Stamps

Ronald McDonald has never been the true rep of this company:

After I took the class I boycotted walmart for about a decade. I've reached a point of fuck it though and I buy my paper plates and socks there again.

I have never shopped there and never will. I often used their toilet when I traveled because it was convenient.

Just thought I would throw some inspiration and motivation your way.:D

I wonder why McDonald's didn't encourage her to sign up for food from the community kitchen/soup kitchen. It's high quality food than I eat and paid for by local/state taxpayers voluntarily and via theft. Whereas, the food stamps are paid for 100% through theft. Maybe McDonald's would encourage both but doesn't have a database of all of the community kitchen locations in the country?

Thanks!

Point still remains that no one wants to take responsibility. McDonalds doesnt want to take care of its own employees and the Mexican Govt doesnt want to take care of its citizens.

I walk away from the internet forever. I am so tired of seeing liberal bullshit posted here. Fucking endess handwringing over Walmart and McDonalds is retarded.

Here'a a deep thought. "No one wants to take responsibility." Maybe peope should take responsibility for themselves????

You people live in some Utopia where you think the purpose of a business is to care about people. This is liberal propoganda, and they're setting the stage to push for an increase in minimum wages.

Gee - I wonder why they aren't screeching about McD's not insuring their employees any more? Maybe because they just managed to get that subsidized through the same government that they have feeding them too

The purpose of business isn't to take care of employees. Its purpose is to maximize profits. As long as the government is wiling to subsidize labor costs through housing grants, food stamps and insurance subsidies, businesses will be able to hire people at less than the market value of labor.

Apparently that is something that will just never, ever be believed by today's youth. The liberal worms are far too embedded in their brains.

or the lack of other opportunity. it isnt always that cut and dry.
hahaha good for McDonalds. This program was put in place to help people who do not make enough to properly feed their families. She should enroll. Suck the paper tiger dry! I laugh at the irony of progressives promoting a program like SNAP and then saying a person shouldn't have to use it. If this lady has been working at McDonalds for 10 years without a raise it is apparent she does not have the skills to move up or the brains to find a new job with better opportunities.

I am sorry life is not fair. If you need proof just look at all of the idiot politician millionaires out there!

Nobody cares. Walmart hate is liberal bullshit. You people are not part of the solution - you're part of the problem.

If you give away free stuff, don't bitch when people take advantage of it. To expect people to do otherwise is to expect what will never happen. If giving away free stuff gets your undies in a bunch, stop doing it! Don't expect the people who stand to benefit from the giveaway to stop it for you.

More that big government and it's various parasites has sucked the value of the dollar away and now the most menial jobs have been rendered basically worthless. I'm sure that in the 1960s, a McDonalds employee wasn't struggling this much to simply put food on the table.

Yes, but I think they were mostly students and part time Mom jobs then. McDonald's was never supposed to be a career choice for the family man.

It just kills me to see so many people lapping up this babble, and repeating it. These are the people that are the reason the nation is lost forever. They know something is wrong, but they just can't ever figure out who the real villain is.

And seeing this article, and the predictable wrong-headed responses to it here on this site makes me crazy. There is just so much wrong in this thread that it staggers the mind to think this isn't Salon or Huffington Post.

I agree. I also find it strange how many people think we need a social safety net, but they don't think people should use it. If an employee has been working at any company for 10 years and they still are not making enough to feed their kids, they are doing it wrong. There are people that have attended Hamburger University and moved up in less than 10 years. Just because she shows up to sell french fries year after year doesn't mean she should be paid more than a manager.

The agenda is to make a profit.

The market for labor includes the factor of food stamps. We can't expect businesses to pretend it doesn't. The ones that ignore food stamps and then overpay their workers will just lose out to the ones that don't.

This exactly right.

And here's another newsflash. People that own businesses will always lobby for ways to dump expenses. They do not care who they dump it on. If they can buy a few politicians that allow them to dump their expenses on the taxpayer, they will always do that. And as long as we allow our politicians to give them our money, our politicians will do exactly that.

This article is straight up union propaganda. "McDonalds has taken a lot of heat lately..." - that ties straight back to the unions. Which ties back to the immigration push.

I don't hate anybody. I just don't buy junk.

If you think my being a smart consumer is part of your problem, then you might want to re-evaluate your own political affiliation.

LOL! Oh yeah they need money. Corporate welfare/citizen welfare they all work hand-in-hand to give government more control over every aspects of our lives. Quit being so naĂŻve. Even the money is a controlling factor.

Yes, the money is a controlling factor, that's exactly what I said.

What are you getting at? That you don't think McDonald's should try to pay as little as possible for labor?

I don't shop at Target either.

As tempted as I am to pry a little to see exactly how you define "smart consumer", I really don't care where you shop. You're not WalMart's targeted base. It's the liberal WalMart bashing that has ingrained itself into the minds of the perennially gullible that bugs me. A quick forum search shows that almost exactly 4 years ago, the liberal media machine was putting out almost identical articles about WalMart. Of course, back then the unions were trying to worm their way into WalMart. Now they'e given up on that, and switched to the fast food workers, so the media changes a few words, substitutes "McDonalds" for "WalMart" and the shrieking begins again.

And it gets posted here, and the cycle begins again. We never, ever make any progress even in our own ranks. They play us like fiddles.

I've told this tale repeatedly. My husband had a business idea. The only retailer in the whole country that would put it on their shelves without a $10,000 per store stockingfee was WalMart.

So some "smart consumers" are actually keeping small American businesses from breaking into the big time and pushing China off the shelves when they boycott Walmart. Total geniuses, they are.

What in the world are you talking about? I'm supposed to apologize to you and your spouse because I don't buy their rivetless pants, fast-growth tree furniture, or "graphite" fishing rods baked in ovens no hotter than the one in your kitchen?

No we don't have any products in Walmart. We couldn't get the deal to come together, so it didn't happen. My point was that your "smart consumerism" isn't really as cut and dry as you make it out to be. There are unintended consequences.

Spend your money as you see fit. That's how markets are supposed to work.
