Four voters challenge Rick Santorum's place on Indiana ballot

Four Hoosier voters have filed challenges seeking to have Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum removed from Indiana's May primary election ballot.

Santorum, a former senator from Pennsylvania, filed his candidacy last week even though he fell eight petition signatures short of meeting Indiana's ballot requirement. To be on Indiana's ballot, Republican and Democratic presidential candidates, as well as state candidates running statewide, must collect the signatures of 500 voters in each of the nine congressional districts. While Santorum's campaign said it collected more than the needed number in each district, Marion County voter registration officials say he fell eight short in the 7th District, which is entirely in Marion County.

Today, four voters -- Jerry Bickle of Columbia City, Philip A. Smith of Indianapolis, Reynaldo M. Farias of Noblesville and Christopher C. Watson of West Lafayette -- each filed challenges with the Indiana Election Division saying Santorum did not meet the state's ballot requirements and should not be on the May 8 ballot.

Total bs.. You can't change the rules to just let anybody on the ballot. He didn't care enough 2 months ago to meet Indiana's ballot requirements.. so now they are gonna to force him on the ballot in a effort to dilute the vote and keep Paul from winning Indiana.

GOP keeps raping Ron Paul and helping the other candidates... It is very lame. Does this mean Santorum has a clear shot of winning since he getting on ballots he is not supposed to be getting on? Hell, lets just add Santorum and Newt onto the Virginia ballot while the GOP is at it.

Most people will say "oh its only 8 sigs" but banks and the IRS will be after you for every single penny.

Just like the votes in Maine weren't counted....now Indiana doesn't want to be left out of the list of State GOPs that don't follow their own rules....

In my district we went the extra mile. We got a few extra hundred signatures than we were required to. Its what a serious campaign would do.

I like the way it is in NH, you pay $1000 and are on the ballot. It is easy and fair. Of Course, we had 30 candidates on the ballot. Clearly, Santorum should NOT be on the ballot in IN because he failed to meet the absolute minimum requirement. However, in the future, I'd love to see every state as fair as NH. Make it $2000 or even $3000 or $4000 if you have to, but just make it reasonable.
