Interesting article here from UK's Office of Communications. They
speak of implantable RFID chips in their citizens. The "spin" is that
these implanted RFID chips would be to help doctors monitor patients
"health" and in case of a medical emergency the doctor would be
notified by the chip and be able to help the patient.

Also, talks about how it can be used similarly to an automated version
of On Star like system.

Do you buy this horse-sh!t? :)

They will convince people that chips are good one minority at a time until the minorities become the majority.

Something similar too...

I remember last summer the energy department was spinning the notion of thermostat control from outside your house. That is they would shut off or turn down your energy or adjust your thermostat when it gets to hot or cold. Thus, adjusting up your thermostat on hot days and lowering it on colder ones.

Excuse me but if I'm paying for my electricity I'll put it as high or low as I dam well please. Or as Dr Paul might say.

"Let me see if I have this right, I pay for electricity, you come along and remotely adjust my thermostat inside my house with radio frequency and I'm suppose to be comfortable with how they set it?"

Utter B.S. in my opinion.

We need to prepare to counteract their arguments. We need to develop many strong arguments against the RFID chip. So far, we have not been very successful with the privacy or tyranny arguments. Does anyone have any ideas?

RFID as a technology isn't evil; it's the applications that can be wrong. If RFID is to be used voluntarily for health purposes, I've got no beef with it.

Hey Yongrel, is having a SSN voluntary?

I believe it is ie your parents voluntarily sign you up for it at birth (you have no say in it :( )...They'd have to know ahead of time what not to sign!!

Looking up info.....

Must my child have a Social Security number?
No. Getting a Social Security number for your newborn is voluntary. But, it is a good idea to get a number when your child is born. You can apply for a Social Security number for your baby when you apply for your baby’s birth certificate. The state agency that issues birth certificates will share your child’s information with us and we will mail the Social Security card to you.

"They" wont need to force it on "us" the people. It will become a matter of conveinence in day to day activities in order to function. much like the debit card was introduced, remember when we had no debit cards and you had to carry cash to purchase goods and services. As all new technology and stuff is developed it will be abused and pushed to the limits of tolerance of society. I like it to move goods makes things run smoother, for people not so much, privacy issues and all. It makes us subhuman somewhat like the borg RFID collective. If you have one you will be part of the grid of everyone else and everything else that has an RFID a huge network of information about where things and people are. They have in the works marketting schemes which will read your RFID as you walk pass a coke machine and a voice will remind you or suggest that you buy a soda. Or your ATM will have a reader above your head and idendify you and offer you special loans for things etc... Imagine shopping without having to check out in a line put pass through a gate/archway which reads all the items in your cart and youself and automatically deducts from your bank accounts...etc when will marketters and those that manage all that data not know where and when youve been somewhere? You know dam well the FBI and CIA would love it. and ID theft...YIKES!

As with most technology, it tends to cut both ways. A blessing AND a CURSE.

Beware of the Law of Unintended Consequences, as usual.

Went to get a new checking account yesterday and the gal who was helping us apply made mention as to how soon we will be totally cashless, like this was a great thing. I just smiled and shook my head like looks that way...No one seems to see how this could be a bad idea. They should have the bank screw up their account like they did ours once, and have the response we got...ummm sucks to be you...SERIOUSLY!!! That was their customer service center that you call for assistance. So luckily my dh had a relationship with the local branch and they reversed charges that should not have been there, but had we not been able to with one computer error they can wipe out your funds.

Yeah...you can agree not to sign the paperwork but then you have disabled the childs capacity to function in society. How are you going to eat unless you get a job? How are you going to get a job without a tax id number? Most applications don't make that application information volutary if they are going to have any intention of hiring you. You cannot get a bank account without it, from what I experienced yesterday with the layers of information they requested.

Also many hospitals force the paperwork on the parents and refuse to allow you to leave until they have all the paperwork returned (this seems to be new protocol for one large Atlanta area hospital which delivers an enormous amount of babies per year). Before you start, I speak from experience and was astounded they pulled this as I had had a child there 6 years prior to the one in question.
