Yes, Ms. Doodahs - we need to have a good talk!
Thank you for the information. I only had time to see a few replies before leaving, but the information contained in the later ones is always helpful as well. I have completely changed my notion of what a bad situation is!
Normally I would think in terms of keeping people out (defending home), not leaving . The news incorrectly reported that the fire had spread to an area 4 blocks from me, which is a very bad neighborhood with a wall on one side and a decent neighborhood on the other. I'm sure you can imagine how that would work out.
My friend called a friend who called a friend and next thing you know I have 11 people in my living room going "what do we do?". I decided the best thing would be to relocate to the home of whomever lived furthest from the area and stick with my "bugged in" comfort zone.
I should have drove in front of everyone though, because the lady who owned the home we were going to led everyone straight into the middle of the fray, trying to get to the freeway instead of circumventing it more.
This was an act of arson, and I swear I felt so trapped coming around the corner into a police patrolled zone, crawling through traffic and smoke (and it wasn't a time, IMO, for trunks or gloveboxes... I know that's bad but Stockton is so so ghetto).
When I returned home, the power was out so I got to see where my box of "power's out" stuff needed refreshing as well. 2 for 1 special. I'll take it as a sign.
I've started collecting donations of clothing and stuff for the dislocated people that are staying in the church temporarily. 33 homes and 20 condos were destroyed from what I've heard - so there is work to be done.
Thanks again for your positive thoughts!
