I'm freaking starving, any voluntaryist want to order me some food?

Sorry, I'm all good. I just toughed it out for the night. Luckily one of my flake ass clients decided to finally pay me for a desktop repair the week before. It got me some groceries. Looking forward to four more payments between now and the 9th. Thanks for your concern guys.

I think many of the statements made in this thread reflect exactly what is wrong with the people of america, including us. I am not in a situation where I can provide you with any assistance. I dont have a job, stuck on food stamps, and not collecting any unemployment benefits. Since I have no children, and Im white, I am not eligible for any other forms of government freebies. Suffice to say, my situation is probably as screwed as yours, but I am lucky enough (no offense to you about your family) that I have family members willing to help me out tremendously.

But as it stands, comments made that you should go dumpster diving instead of trying to give you a hand up arent helpful. Neither are statements about going to church. Churches are there to survive on peoples charity, so when it comes time that we need their charity, my experience has taught me that they are no where to be found. Charity isnt always about church, however. Its not always about money. We dont have much left. But we can grow food and make exchanges without money. Working directly for food without using money (well, the ghost of money or fiat currency) to facilitate the exchange of services for goods. It would make me feel better about myself if I truly believed that I could tell you that "someone generous will help you out", but I dont honestly believe that statement. People have become dependant on govt handouts and selfish about the handouts we receive. Of course, we did pay for them, mostly by inflation, and now are unable to deny the "favors" handed to us by those with the power to issue currency.

I am sorry that I am not able to help you out in any way shape or form in the longer term. I wish I could say things are going to get better. I wish I had more confidence in people. Im not singling out our forum members as I believe we behave much better than those who are far more selfish than us. I think that people in general have tightened their purse strings to hold on to the few coins they have left, if any at all. Im not going to say any "prayers" for you for two reasons. #1, I dont believe in that shit. #2, I have no idea if you are religious or not and dont intend to offend you by pushing my religious (well, lack thereof) on you which either reinforces any beliefs you may have, or you may find to be offensive. So no prayers from me out of respect to all possible beliefs.

I dont know if we are going to make it through this situation. When push comes to shove, if you find yourself out on the streets, I'll probably be right next to you in the same situation. I wish you long term luck, but I think even that is a resource that is drying up and evaporating before our eyes.

Hopefully, some of our other more positive forum members can at least provide words of encouragement for ALL the people in our situation.

I have a job, I go to school. First week of classes I had to turn my tags in due to the state not sending off my insurance check on time and the eventual lapse that occurred. I have to wait 30 days for them to come back before I can go back to work (I'm a delivery driver).
I don't exactly understand how that works. I have lived in several states and have never had to physically turn in my tags. It especially seems skeptical that all this happened over a very short time. Maybe I don't understand what tags you are talking about. Every place I have ever lived auto tags or plates were assigned once when the vehicle was originally purchased and then renewed annually or biannually. Even if you failed to pay the fee you would not "turn in the tags". The only time I would turn in the tags is in the case of selling the automobile. In that case I would want property taxes to cease on the vehicle and be able to prove to the taxing authority when transfer took place. You mentioned you were going to school. What is your major? Do you feel that a degree will translate into gainful employment? Many graduates are waiting table and delivering pizza to make ends meet nowadays.

It sounds like, as a "delivery driver," he might have his CDL and is beholden to an entirely different set of rules than a typical driver is.

If you let you rinsurance lapse in PA you are supposed to turn in your tags. No one does. OP is a good guy.

Thanks for letting us know! Glad you're OK.

Nah, NC has some of the strictest registration laws in the country. When you have a lapse in insurance for a certain period of time, they make you turn the tags in for 30 days.

Hey we are all in this world/life/struggle together, I got papa johns points for a pizza or two, if there is one within 15 miles give me a PM when you need a pizza and I will send one over. I'll tip the driver for you as well. I'll need an address and such for that to happen, but surely willing.

There's nothing wrong with dumpster picking. Taking food that other people have thrown away would be a highly moral and practical way for the OP to solve his problem. I don't understand how alerting him to that possibility is unhelpful. I don't understand how suggesting a church might help him is unhelpful.

What are you saying would be the right thing to happen, DamianTV? Just throw money willy-nilly whenever someone online asks for it? The posters were all taking the post at face value and making a variety of serious, creative, practical suggestions which would be extremely helpful were the person in dire need of food. Multiple posters even did offer to throw money at him willy-nilly, in the form of ordering food on his behalf.

I think you're just irrationally prejudiced against dumpster diving and think we were insulting him by suggesting it. But there is nothing bad or wrong about dumpster diving.

So you won't be needing to borrow my replicator?

Heh - I used to live on blue crab sometimes. It's easier being a hungry 20 year old female, I think. My roommate and I would just go to the bar, shoot pool with a low cut shirt on and drive home with full bellies and doggy bags for breakfast.
Oh, that made me laugh.

This. Several people offered to purchase the poster food, but at the time the person was not on and not posting, so it became more of a general advice thread. My thoughts were more along the lines of "what if he logs on while we're all at work or asleep? What advice would be helpful?"

I didn't see people dismissing the person's situation. I talked about buying groceries smartly for a very low budget. Others talked about dumpster diving, though if you read the posts they are mostly talking about going around and getting food that restaurants are about to throw out... not physically digging for food in dumpsters.

Going to church is a very good way to get basic foods, and a lot of local churches have connections with gas stations, bus services, etc., to help keep you from falling that last bit into true poverty. Frankly, I'm saddened you're turning your nose up at this advice.

I thought I gave practical advice. It was not flippant.
It was from life experience, and should be basic survival skills.

I have done so myself,, and I have worked restaurants and set food out for the homeless, in a to-go box,on top of the dumpster.
My advice is free,, just like that food. Take it or leave it.
